The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt isn’t just going to be defined by its powertrain – its powertrain is going to redefine the EV segment. The batteries were developed in conjunction with LG Electronics, resulting in a battery pack of 288 lithium-ion cells that weighs under 1,000 pounds. The 60-kWh lithium-ion battery’s 288 cells will be able to go over a staggering 200 miles on a full charge, sprinting to 60 miles per hour in less than seven seconds thanks to a 150-kW/200 horsepower, 266 lb-ft of torque output.
There’s even an available 240-volt charging unit for those who need power faster than can be delivered by a standard 120-volt outlet. A full charge takes just nine hours with the onboard 7.2-kW charger, but less than two hours will be enough for 50 miles and 25 miles will be within your grasp in just one hour.
Just a few short months ago, almost anyone in the automotive world would have told you that you’d need to empty your wallet and speak to your bank in order to secure that kind of EV performance, but Chevrolet have changed the game.
The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt offers efficiency on every level; the powertrain might form the core of that promise, but every line and curve does its part. From headlamps to the rear wheels, aerodynamics are optimized by clean, flowing lines, sculpted body sides, and strong wheel arches. Look underneath to find an enclosed, flat underbody. Batteries don’t require air for combustion, so the bottom can be closed off to streamline airflow and improve your drive. Trust us, you’ve never experienced a ride as smooth or responsive.
The Bolt becomes no less impressive once you slip inside its well-appointed cabin. A generous 52.2 cubic feet of passenger space gives all occupants room to stretch out and relax, and there’s an unexpected 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space in which to stow all of your bits and pieces with ease.
You’ll also find that cabin design has responded to the Bolt’s overall nature. Regenerative braking is now a typical feature in hybrid or EV models, but the Bolt has transformed it into a feature that allows one pedal driving. Through a combination of increased regenerative deceleration and software controls, you’ll be able to operate the Bolt without even touching the brake pedal.
Each 2017 Chevrolet Bolt will come with a 10.2-inch diagonal tablet-like display, providing battery levels, range estimation, charge settings, and climate controls, with split-screen and expanded views available for easy navigation.
Other features that Troy and Schenectady drivers will enjoy include:
- Apple CarPlay/Android Auto: Sync up your iPhone or Android to your Bolt, then make calls, listen to music, get directions, and use other select apps on the 10.2-inch diagonal display.
- 4G LTE Wi-Fi: Turns your entire vehicle into a rolling Wi-Fi hotspot, so you’ll never need to worry about losing your connection or going over your mobile’s data limits.
- Surround Vision Camera: Employs four strategically placed cameras to create a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and its surrounding area, making maneuvers as easy as possible.
The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt doesn’t concentrate on efficiency and technology so much that it forgets about the fundamentals. Troy and Schenectady drivers can rest assured that each model will be provided with a strong array of standard safety technologies, including 10 air bags and a rear vision camera.
Furthermore, an advanced high-strength steel-frame has been utilized to offer superb resilience to collision energy, and a number of state-of-the-art driver assistance technologies will be made available. These will include:
- Forward Pedestrian Alert
- Forward Collision Alert
- Side Blind Zone Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
