Midsize trucks offer a unique balance of capability and efficiency, allowing manufacturers to focus on delivering exactly the features drivers need without the extra size of a full-size model.
Unlike some companies, Chevrolet goes above and beyond, and the 2026 Chevy Colorado beautifully illustrates how well they understand what a truck needs to deliver. While it doesn’t match the sheer power of the full-size Silverado 1500, the Colorado still delivers impressive performance and capability, proving it is far from lacking in these areas. Instead, you get a midsize truck with bold capabilities, terrific features inside and out, and off-road performance few other vehicles can match.
Terrific Power and Performance

While the Chevy Colorado is a midsize truck, it offers its own impressive blend of capability, efficiency, and versatility that makes it a standout in its class. A midsize pickup doesn’t need to feel underwhelming or weak on the road—thanks to a well-designed powertrain and thoughtful engineering, it can still provide outstanding performance.
This is precisely what you’ll find with the 2026 Colorado, along with everything it brings to the road. You get a powerful and capable truck that you can rely on for daily driving, towing large loads, and taking care of everything else you need to do on a regular basis.
Chevy offers just one engine for the 2026 Colorado, but that is not a problem since it is an incredibly bold and capable powertrain. Every Colorado comes with a 2.7L TurboMax turbocharged I-4 engine that delivers up to 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This ensures you have a fantastic time on the road each day and prevents the Colorado from ever feeling sluggish or underpowered. You have a midsize truck that is easier to fit into your daily life than a larger model, yet it boasts plenty of muscle under the hood.
You can choose either RWD or 4WD with the Colorado, allowing you to select the kind of performance and handling you prefer. Although RWD feels great, there is something about a 4WD Colorado that cannot be beat, and it is especially nice for dealing with rainy days and snow in the winter without any issues.
When it comes to what you can do with your truck, the 2026 Colorado offers 1,684 lbs of maximum payload capacity and up to 7,700 lbs of towing. That is plenty of muscle to handle a wide range of tasks, including hauling a boat behind your truck or loading up with supplies for a weekend DIY project. And if you need a pickup that can handle more weight, take a look at the Silverado 1500 and all it has to offer.
Exciting Interior and Exterior Options

One of the things we love about the Chevy lineup these days is that it gives you an incredible range of options to choose from. This holds true not only for the variety of vehicles available but also for the wide range of trims, packages, and options Chevy offers for each model. The Colorado showcases this perfectly, as it offers five different trims that make it easy to customize your truck and get everything you want. And once you choose the trim you like, additional options are available if you want to add a few extras to enhance your drive.
Looking inside the 2026 Colorado, standard features include a gorgeous 11.3-inch infotainment display with Google built-in and support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You get an 11-inch Driver Information Center screen, a six-speaker sound system, and cloth seating with a six-way manual driver’s seat, all of which are standard. Remote Keyless Entry is available, and cruise control is also included, even with the starting WT model.
Moving up to the Z71 trim, we find numerous upgrades, including cloth/Evotex seating, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and an available heated wrapped steering wheel. A wireless phone charger and dual-zone automatic climate control are included with the Z71. Additionally, you can opt for an available Bose Premium sound system and other features.
On the outside, the Colorado is just as impressive, offering several remarkable features and options to enjoy. Starting with the WT model again, we find 17-inch Ultra Silver Metallic wheels, black front and rear bumpers, automatic on/off halogen headlamps, and heated power-adjustable outside mirrors.
Going with the Z71 gets you a lot of upgrades, such as 18-inch wheels wrapped in 32-inch all-terrain tires, LED projector headlamps with daylight running lamps, LED fog lamps and tail lamps, and an EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate with an added StowFlex tailgate that makes it easy to bring everything you need along with you each day.
Rugged and Remarkable Off-Road Capabilities

As much as we love every trim level for the 2026 Chevy Colorado, there is one that definitely stands out as something special: the ZR2. This is the one you should focus on if you want a midsize truck with incredible off-road performance and capabilities.
Midsize pickups make for great off-road vehicles because their smaller design makes them easier to maneuver through tight spots on the trail. While other Colorado models can certainly work well for going camping or taking a boat out on the weekend, the ZR2 is an exceptional outdoor trim of this truck, featuring a fantastic selection of features.
The ZR2 trim is only available with 4WD and comes with the ZR2 Off-Road package, which elevates its capabilities on the trail. This package includes a three-inch factory-installed lift, providing excellent ground clearance, as well as a taller/wider stance for added stability on rough and uneven terrain.
You get an off-road front fascia, rear bumper, and fender flares with this package, plus a high-performance suspension with DSSV Multimatic dampers that can handle anything the trails throw at you while keeping you comfortable and in control. The ZR2 also features 33-inch MT tires for excellent traction, along with driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials for enhanced control.
If you don’t need everything the ZR2 offers, then the Trail Boss trim could be a great choice, featuring an off-road suspension that includes a two-inch factory lift. The Trail Boss model features 32-inch all-terrain tires for excellent traction off-road, along with an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case equipped with push-button controls, allowing for easy adjustments to traction and handling on the fly.
On the other hand, if you want to take your off-road experience even further, then check out the ZR2 Bison Edition. It features five Boron steel skid plates, underbody protection, 35-inch OD MT tires, front and rear jounce control dampers, a best-in-class record in ground clearance, and more great features make the ZR2 Bison Edition an unstoppable force on the trail.
