One of the biggest draws to the Chevy Silverado 1500 is its range of thrilling powertrains. For 2024, customers have the option of four different powertrains throughout the nine available trim levels. That means you can opt for power, efficiency, or both.
The base level engine, newly renamed for this model year, is a 2.7L TurboMax I-4 with an output of 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. The next option is a 5.3L V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management, delivering 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This 5.3L engine can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The fastest powertrain of the lineup is a hefty 6.2L V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management with a total output of 420 hp and a hair-raising 460 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, this engine can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Finally, an available Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I-6 delivers 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
The 2024 Silverado 1500 comes with one of two transmissions: an 8-speed automatic for the 2.7L engine or a 10-speed automatic for the other three powertrains. Need the Silverado for work? While all four powertrains have impressive hauling and towing capabilities, it's the 2.7L engine that can haul up to 2,260 lbs when equipped with two-wheel drive. The maximum trailering weight has the greatest capacities on the 6.2L V8 and the Duramax Turbo-Diesel, capable of towing up to 13,300 lbs when properly equipped.
All four powertrains can be either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, so customers can handpick which system best meets their needs. Work is even more simple with the Trailering Package, which adds a trailer hitch, 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, Hitch Guidance, and an available integrated trailer brake controller. The Trailering Package comes standard on the Custom trim and higher but can be added on the WT.
For those who enjoy off-roading, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a dream vehicle to explore the path less traveled. While certain trim levels like the Trail Boss, Custom Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country are outfitted specifically for off-roading, each model of the 2024 Silverado 1500 can tackle off-roading conditions to a certain degree. The automatic rear axle, which is standard on the Custom and higher, helps control torque and prevent spinning if you are driving in rain, mud, or other slippery conditions. On the ZR2, that system consists of a front and rear Elocker, an even more advanced application of this technology, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Upon closer inspection of the ZR2, you'll find a tremendous amount of features designed to conquer off-roading. This Silverado comes with underbody skid plates, a high-approach steel front bumper, massive 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler mud-terrain tires, and an off-road-tuned suspension. Some of these features can be found on other models, as well. For example, the Trail Boss trims have a 2-inch factory lift, fine-tuned suspension, aluminum skid plates, and an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case. Additionally, several trims have the Z71 off-road suspension, monotube shocks, and a driver assistance feature called Hill Descent Control.
There are other tools that come standard on every model of the 2024 Silverado 1500 that help off-roading. For example, the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with traction control includes electronic stability sway control and Hill Start Assist, perfect for steep inclines, traveling up and down hills, uneven terrain, and starting your truck while on an incline. Should you go off-roading while towing a trailer, small boat, or other equipment, you'll benefit from the additional available camera views and trailering enhancement tools that come with every trim level.
Inside the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, you'll find a comfortable cabin lined with premium materials and outfitted with the technology you want to keep the day running smoothly. There are plenty of high-end extras available as you move up in trim levels. But, even the base WT offers soft yet durable materials perfect for work and family travel. The infotainment center features the latest in compatibility with all your favorite devices, and the touchscreens are devised with a customizable layout and help you pay attention to what matters most; the road ahead. For 2024, Chevy updated wireless connectivity to be standard on all models and added OnStar to each truck.
On the base level WT, the interior comes with the essentials but includes thoughtfully curated features that make your truck easier to operate. It has manually adjustable seats and easy-to-clean vinyl upholstery. Moving to the LT trim gives you a far more developed dashboard with a 12.3-inch Driver Information Center and a significantly larger, 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment center. Higher trim levels offer upscale touches like perforated leather upholstery seating, HD Surround Vision, a Bose premium seven-speaker audio system, open-pore wood trim throughout, custom stitching patterns, power lumbar control, and heated and ventilated seats.
Additionally, there are packages that come with various trim levels that upgrade your cabin experience even more. A Convenience Package adds a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate controls, rear-window defogger, remote vehicle starter, and more. Other available packages include a Convenience Package II, Leather Package, and a Safety Package that includes additional camera views and extra driver assistance features such as Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and more.
While you can add the Safety Package on certain models, every Silverado 1500 comes standard with the Chevy Safety Assist suite. The Chevy Safety Assist suite includes features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam Auto High Beam Assist.
