When to Buy New Tires in Albany, NY
Walking through a parking lot, some people can point out low tread level like an eagle. If that’s not a skill you’ve acquired, don’t feel bad. There’s plenty of ways to tell whether or not it’s time to buy new tires. (Note: if you’re tires appear to be balding in any way, shape, or form, no need to guess. It’s time!)
The easiest, and most used, way for regular folks to check tire tread levels is to use the penny test.
The Penny Test
Take a penny and place it between the grooves of your tires with Lincoln’s side facing you with his head down. After placing the penny in between the grooves, check to see if the top of Lincoln’s head is being covered by the tread.
If you can still see the top of his head, your tires are really worn and should be replaced as soon as possible. But if you can’t see the top of Lincoln’s head, this more than likely means you have more than the recommended level of tread remaining.
Feel free to stop by DePaula’s service department if you’re unsure your tires have more than the recommended tread left. We’ll let you know our expert opinion, and can even help you shop for new tires if it turns out you’re in need.

Do Electric Vehicles Need Special Tires?
Yes. EVs like the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV are engineered with unique performance, weight, and torque characteristics, so they need EV-specific tires to maintain range, handling, and safety.
We stock and install EV-approved tires for the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and BrightDrop models
1. Heavier Vehicle Weight
EVs carry large battery packs that make them 20–30% heavier than comparable gas vehicles. EV tires use reinforced sidewalls and stronger internal structures to handle this added weight without deforming or wearing prematurely.
2. Instant Torque & Acceleration
EVs deliver instant torque — meaning maximum power from a standstill. EV tires have special tread compounds that resist rapid wear from sudden acceleration while maintaining excellent traction.
3. Cabin Quietness
Since EVs are nearly silent, tire noise becomes more noticeable. Many EV tires use noise-reducing foam linings or variable tread patterns to minimize road noise and preserve that quiet ride Chevy EV owners love.
4. Rolling Resistance & Range
Lower rolling resistance = more miles per charge. EV tires are optimized with low-friction materials and aerodynamic sidewalls to reduce energy loss and improve range — up to 5–10% more efficiency compared to standard tires.
5. All-Season vs. EV-Specific
Some premium All-Season tires (like Michelin Energy Saver A/S or Goodyear ElectricDrive™) are now EV-rated, offering the balance between year-round usability and EV-specific design.

Tire Maintenance Tips
How Often Should I Check My Chevrolet Tire Pressure?
Checking your Chevy’s tire pressure regularly ensures your vehicle delivers optimal traction, handling, and fuel economy. Chevrolet recommends checking tire pressure at least once a month or before long trips.
Many newer Chevrolet vehicles feature Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) that alert you when your tires fall below the recommended PSI. You can find the correct tire pressure for your Chevy on the driver’s side door label or in your owner’s manual.
If your vehicle doesn’t have TPMS, use a digital tire gauge or visit DePaula Chevrolet’s service center in Albany for a quick pressure check. Proper tire inflation helps maximize tread life and ensures a smooth, balanced ride.
How Often Should I Rotate My Tires?
Regular tire rotation keeps wear even across all four tires, helping you get the most life and performance from your set. Most experts recommend rotating your Chevrolet tires every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, or roughly every oil change.
At DePaula Chevrolet, our Certified Service technicians can rotate your tires during your routine Chevrolet oil change, making maintenance simple and efficient.
Check your Chevy owner’s manual for specific rotation intervals or stop by our Albany tire service center for personalized guidance.
Why is Proper Wheel Alignment Important?
If your steering wheel feels off-center or your Chevy pulls to one side, you may need a wheel alignment. Misalignment can occur after hitting a pothole or curb and can cause uneven tire wear or poor handling.
Our Chevrolet alignment service in Albany ensures your vehicle’s suspension geometry is properly calibrated for smooth driving, longer tire life, and improved safety.
What Does Wheel Balancing Do?
Wheel balancing ensures your tires and wheels spin evenly, preventing vibrations and uneven wear. An unbalanced tire can affect ride quality and even lead to suspension damage over time.
If you feel vibration at higher speeds, it’s time to schedule a Chevy wheel balance service at DePaula Chevrolet in Albany. Our technicians use advanced balancing technology to deliver a smoother, more comfortable ride.
