2021 Chevy SUVs

Chevy SUVs have a special place in the heart of adventurers and explorers because they have the ability to move people and their things with equal agility. Whether you’re going hiking or camping around the lakes up North, or heading cross state to Buffalo and beyond, an SUV is a fantastic choice. Not only is there plenty of room for luggage, sports equipment, backpacks, tents, and supplies, an SUV provides ample seating for every member of the family.

The biggest, boldest, and most versatile of these family vehicles are the Chevy Tahoe and the Chevy Suburban. With three rows of passengers and a wide variety of trims and options, both have the power to move large groups of passengers anywhere the road might lead. Featuring plenty of cargo room, towing capacity for smaller loads, and forward-thinking safety and convenience technology, it’s easy to see why the Tahoe and Suburban have earned a place of honor in the SUV segment.

Over the years, both vehicles have gained a reputation for their versatility and reliability, making them a welcome addition to the garages of the Capital District's adventurous citizens.

The Chevy Suburban: A Classic Transportation Masterpiece

The first generation of Suburban was produced from 1935 through 1940. It was given the moniker, “the Suburban Carryall,” for its ability to transport just about anything, anywhere. Just like today’s Suburbans, these vehicles had three rows of seating, which could be reconfigured for up to 115.1 cubic feet of storage space. Engines at that time offered a whopping 60-79 horsepower, making the trip to Buffalo an all-day event.

In today’s technologically-advanced age, the cars go faster, and I-90 West cuts down on cross-state travel time. But there are many aspects of the 2021 Chevy Suburban that haven’t changed––it can still “carry all.” It still has three rows of seating for up to nine passengers, depending on the trim and seating configuration chosen. It is still a leader in cargo space, with 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space available with all seats occupied. When the second and third row seats are folded, a maximum of 144.7 cubic feet of space opens.

All 2021 models except the High Country trim feature a 5.3L V8 engine that offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. A 6.2L V8 comes standard on the top High Country trim, producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for a diesel option can select a 3.0L turbo diesel inline-6, which gets up to 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Each engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard 2021 Suburban is offered as rear-wheel drive, but drivers can opt to add four-wheel drive. Early estimates indicate that a properly-equipped 2021 Suburban will be able to tow over 8,000 pounds, which is perfect for towing a small boat up to Thousand Islands.

The interior of the 2021 Suburban would be almost unrecognizable to a driver of the 1935 model, but it can be a saving grace for those taking long Upstate road trips with an antsy crew. Chevy has installed cutting edge technology in all Suburban models, from the base LS, through the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country models. Available features include a nine-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, hands-free power liftgate, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a surround-view camera.

Drivers looking for the ultimate combination of capability, safety, convenience, and comfort will find the Chevrolet Suburban meets most of the needs on their lists. It doesn’t hurt that a Suburban can also provide a comfortable camping spot for an impromptu trip to the Wild Forests or Wilderness areas.

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe: Ready for More

Like the Suburban, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is a three row SUV, but it measures and weighs in at smaller dimensions than its larger sibling. Also, like the Suburban, the Tahoe has been completely redesigned for a new generation, due to debut in New York in 2021.

The previous generation Chevy Tahoe was 204 inches in length, while the 2021 model measures in at 210.7 inches. That's an extra three inches of legroom given to the second row and ten more inches for third row passengers. This also means the maximum cargo room ramps up from an impressive 94.7 cubic feet to an exceptional 122.9 cubic feet. How you use that space is up to you: that’s plenty of room for touring antique stores in the Finger Lakes region, collecting goodies along the Upper Hudson Valley Wine Trail or the Troy farmer’s market, or for a wild weekend at Lake Placid.

The Tahoe is also getting a diesel option in 2021. The standard 5.3L V8 engine, which offers 355 horsepower, is joined by an available 6.2L V8, which raises the bar at 420 horsepower. New to the scene is a 3.0L turbo diesel six-cylinder engine, which offers 277 horsepower and 460 lb/ft of torque. All engines are equipped with a ten-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, though many Upstate NY drivers who crave adventure will choose the four-wheel drive option.

Each of the 2021 Tahoe’s six trim packages is designed to have its own personality, including the no-nonsense LS, the feature-driven LT, and the luxurious RST. Drivers of the Z71 trim will enjoy standard four-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a two-speed transfer case, making it a solid choice for extreme sports fans who crave off-road action in the snow and mud. The Premier and High Country trims top the line.

Chevy has been quiet about the comfort features of the 2021 Tahoe, but early reports indicate strategically placed charging ports, premium Bose audio systems, and independent rear-seat entertainment systems are on the table.

It’s easy to see why extreme adventure drivers and those who spend time in the beauty of the lakes and mountains of New York gravitate towards the Chevy Tahoe as a road-trip-ready vehicle. It’s roomy, comfortable, and designed to keep a crowd in good spirits for long stretches.

Drivers looking for a vehicle that can seat the whole family, the entire team, or the full crew need look no further than the Chevy Suburban or Chevy Tahoe. With a new generation being released in 2021, there’s a lot to look forward to, and plenty of surprises in the mix. One thing is for certain: there will be plenty of room for passengers and cargo alike, making either vehicle an ideal match for those who leave the Capital District to see the world on weekends.

Excellent Used Options

Here at DePaula Chevy, we also have a terrific selection of used Chevy SUVs for you to check out and choose from. Whether you are shopping late-model or older used options, a Chevy will treat you right for years to come, and there are many different model years with a wide range of options for you to look for. Although our inventory changes regularly, certain iconic models have defined Chevy SUVs for drivers and are always popular on the used market.

Over the years, one name that has become synonymous with the Chevy SUV experience, which customers come to us looking for year after year, is the Chevy Equinox. The Equinox is a mainstay in the industry and one of the most popular small SUVs on the road. If you are looking for an option that can fit into a modest lifestyle, without sacrificing the kind of spaciousness and ruggedness that you expect from an SUV, then an Equinox is a great choice.

Similarly, the Blazer has been a legend in the industry for a long time and offers a great midsize option that falls comfortably between a small and full-size model. The latest generation of the Blazer is one of the finest we have ever seen and has been very popular. Of course, the Tahoe is one of the definitive SUVs on the road and continues to impress year after year. And finally, the Suburban is the perfect expression of full-size power and roominess, offering something truly special for anyone looking for large Chevy SUVs to take you around town or across the country.
