Are you looking for a Chevy truck dealer that has the perfect truck for you? Then you are in the right place. At DePaula Chevrolet, we can help you get behind the wheel of a great Chevy truck. For more than 100 years, Chevrolet has been a leader in the automotive world, producing American classics that represent innovation and perseverance.
From the S10 to the Colorado and the C/K Line to the Silverado, Chevy has taken incredible trucks and made them even better. Years of hard work and ingenuity have gone into making Chevy an icon, producing some of our most classic trucks to date. Chevy has been contributing to the automotive world for years with revolutionary ideas like the “see-through” trailer, the first hybrid pick-up, and the first to use a wrap-around windshield in trucks. Despite so many impressive feats, Chevy still pushes forward, trying to top its latest successes.
Chevy is one of the top-selling brands, and with the Silverado and Colorado, it isn’t hard to see why. It seems like Chevy trucks are capable of almost anything. Offering a selection of trims and options to make the Silverado and Colorado anything you want, Chevy has a truck for anyone and everyone.
A spin-off of the C/K truck line that was popular back in the sixties, the Silverado began its rise to stardom as a trim option. Showing it could stand on its own, this trim option eventually became the stand-alone Chevy Silverado. The first-generation Silverado was released in 1999 as a light-duty truck, specifically the 1500 and 2500, and was available in several trim options. Enthusiasts were thrilled to have the option to choose between a V6 and a V8, ranging from 200 horsepower all the way up to 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque.
Eventually, a heavy-duty option was also added to the line-up.
Chevy impressed the public by offering a Tow/Haul mode on the automatic tranny version of the Silverado, which was a cool feature for the time. Even more exciting was the inclusion of Autotrac. A hint at future innovations, Autotrac is a four-wheel drive system that allows for improved traction. The first generation of the Silverado was a prime example of what Chevy could accomplish and set the Silverado up for continuing success.
As if the Silverado wasn’t neat enough, in 2002, Quadrasteer was introduced. A unique system that drastically decreased the turning radius, improving stability and control, Quadrasteer seemed ahead of its time. By 2007, the second generation of Chevy Silverado was ready to take over, further improving upon the already spectacular truck. The second-generation rollout was a smorgasbord of options, including a heart-throbbing 6.0-liter V8 that shook out 367 horsepower.
The second generation was award-winning, but that didn’t mean Chevy wouldn’t push the boundaries even further with future generations. The Silverado gained a focus on efficiency with a rollout of eco-friendly engines. Once again, the Silverado got a beefy boost in power, with a new engine able to produce 420 horsepower. Additionally, there was a punch through into the luxury truck market, with the introduction of some high-end trim options.
It’s not surprising that with every Chevy upgrade, the Silverado gained new safety tech and gadgets to improve driver comfort. More power has led to the Chevy being a true workhorse but with great power comes great responsibility and that responsibility is seeing the automotive world switching to electric. An electric truck sounds like quite a contradiction, but rather its an electrifying new take on what a truck can achieve. Great things are around the corner for the Chevy Silverado.
The Chevy Colorado entered the game with the intention of changing it. 2004 would be the starting point for the Colorado, introduced as a “midsize” truck. Phasing out the S10, which was a bit smaller, the hope was to offer a truck that was “just the right size”. Offered in an assortment of trims, sizes, and so on, the options were abundant.
The heart of the Colorado was either a four-cylinder pumping 175 horsepower or a five-cylinder pulsing out 220 horsepower. The new configuration boosted fuel efficiency in an impressive way while maintaining the gruff appeal of the truck. Towing capacity dropped but this was an indicator of the new way of thinking. An idea that not everyone bought a truck with the sole purpose of towing a “King Kong” sized load and that for some people, smaller and more affordable is the way to go.
The first generation for the Colorado lasted until 2012, when it took a small break in the U.S. market. Thankfully, it reemerged in 2015, looking trimer and classier than ever before. It was clear that Chevy had been hitting the gym in all the best ways possible, with a more narrow lighter weight body. On the flip side, the front end was redone to include more curves, doing away with the old boxy style.
These changes were not merely for appearance’s sake but showed an increase in power as well. Two new engines, with the V6 topping out at 302 horsepower, offered more torque and towing. The second generation was capable of towing up to 6,700 pounds. Chevy didn’t stop there, adding a turbo diesel to the options a year later. The Colorado was one of two midsize trucks to offer diesel, which made it a true pioneer.
Time has been good to the Colorado, adding increasingly cooler and better features with each passing year. The overall style has changed as well, becoming a much beefier version of what it once was. For years, it was a leader in its class for towing and continues to impress with its capabilities, styling, and off-road performance.
