For people with extreme towing needs, a full-size truck like the Chevy Silverado is a great choice; but for the rest of us, a midsize model like the Chevy Colorado makes a lot of sense. The Colorado still offers fantastic performance and capability, but with a more modest size that can easily fit into just about any lifestyle. As your NY Chevy Colorado dealer, we understand the needs of our friends and neighbors here in Albany and throughout the surrounding area. Whether you need a work truck to get you through the week, a pickup for enjoying the weekend, or a model that can do it all, the Colorado has you covered.
With so many great options and features available on the Chevy Colorado, however, choosing the right setup with everything you need can be a bit tricky. That is why you deserve to have someone by your side to help you look at all of the options, go over your requirements, and ensure you get the right Colorado. Whether that means a reliable option like the LT trim or the off-road-focused ZR2, we will make sure you drive away in the perfect truck. Come visit us at DePaula Chevrolet today to find out more and see how easy it can be to get a pickup with everything you need.
First introduced in 2003, the Colorado was the follow-up to the Chevy S-10, a popular compact truck that had been around for a couple of decades. When it was first introduced, the design of the Chevy Colorado was clearly informed by the S-10, and it had a similar compact form to it. The first generation of the Colorado was available in a number of trims and configuration options, including a regular cab, extended cab, and a crew cab with four doors. Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive were available, along with automatic and manual transmissions.
Through its first generation, numerous engines were offered, including updated options introduced for the 2007 model year, which also saw a facelift with a bold new design. Several different suspensions were available for the Chevy Colorado, including a “Z/71” suspension designed for going off-road – this became so popular that trail enthusiasts learned the name and started asking for the Z/71 when configuring their ideal Colorado. Although sales remained strong for the Colorado compared to other models like the Ford Ranger, Chevy ultimately brought its production to a halt following the 2012 model year.
After a hiatus for a couple of years, during which time Chevy’s designers and engineers reworked it, the Colorado returned for a second generation in 2015 as a midsize pickup. Not only was the second-generation Colorado larger, but its overall design was clearly influenced by the full-size Chevy Silverado, creating a more cohesive lineup and giving truck fans reason to rejoice. The Colorado continues to be offered in numerous configurations, including different cab sizes, and with different engines available, including a diesel that was added in 2016. It has also remained a favorite among off-road fans: the Z71 has become a trim level and a very popular option, offering fantastic performance and the ability to conquer any trail.

For 2022, the Chevy Colorado remains one of the most popular and impressive midsize trucks on the road, delivering a fantastic combination of power and ability. There are four different trims to choose from, letting you pick the right setup for what you need from your truck. The standard WT trim is perfect if you are looking for a work truck or need something to add to a fleet of vehicles for a business. It is a budget-friendly choice that comes through with impressive engine options and features to help you get your job done.
The LT trim builds on the WT with a number of exciting features and options that elevate it to the next level. For example, the LT comes with a standard 8-inch infotainment display and a 6-way power driver’s seat to make your ride comfortable and help you get where you need to go. In terms of capability, when properly equipped for it, the 2022 Colorado can handle up to 7,700 lbs of towing capacity with the available turbo-diesel engine. You also get up to 1,550 lbs of available payload capacity with the Colorado if you choose a crew cab model with the available V6 engine, giving you plenty of capability to handle any task.
Perhaps most exciting about the 2022 Chevy Colorado, however, is that two different off-road trims are available, which lets you get exactly what you want in a trail truck. The Z71 remains an off-road legend with an automatic locking rear differential, 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, and the Z71 Off-Road Suspension package, which includes hill descent control and an underbody transfer case shield. If you choose the ZR2 trim, then you get exclusive DSSV Multimatic dampers, a transfer case shield, driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials, wider front and rear tracks than a standard Colorado, and a 2-inch higher suspension for increased ground clearance.
