Used Chevy Equinox

A used Chevy Equinox is a great pick if you're in the market for a dependable and affordable vehicle. First introduced at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show, the Equinox was Chevy's first crossover SUV. Today, the Equinox remains the most popular SUV in the Chevy lineup, representing a great blend of performance, comfort, and cost. Because of its relatively long history, high production numbers, and multitude of options, finding the right used Equinox for your personal needs is a simple matter.

There have been three generations of the Chevy Equinox, with the first generation running from 2005 to 2009. While slightly dated by today's standards, a used first-generation model can be counted on to provide solid performance at an affordable price. The second generation arrived in 2010 and left production in 2017. With revised styling and updated features, examples from these years represent the sweet spot of used cars. Finally, there is the third generation, which was introduced in 2018. These models are filled with modern technology and make for comfortable and versatile vehicles

What Engines are in the Chevy Equinox?

Over the years, the Chevy Equinox has been offered with many different engines. The first generation utilized a 3.4-liter V6 with 185 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. Chevy drastically raised performance for the 2008-2009 model year, introducing a Sport trim powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 264 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. This engine also offers up to 3,500 lbs of towing capacity, making it a particularly versatile choice.

The second-generation Equinox offers a more fuel-conscious 2.4-liter Ecotec inline-four with 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. However, it also has an option for either a 3.0-liter V6 that pumps out 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque or a 3.6-liter V6 with 301 hp with 272 lb-ft of torque. This latter option is the most powerful engine ever offered in the Equinox and is available in the 2013 - 2017 model years.

The third-generation Equinox features a range of brand-new turbocharged engines for greater fuel efficiency and even offers a diesel option. The base model comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo that is capable of 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. The next step up is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there's a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel that produces 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. However, the turbo-diesel was discontinued after the 2019 model year, and the 2.0-liter left the lineup after 2020.

What Chevrolet Equinox Models Have Teen Driver?

Chevrolet is at the forefront of protecting your kids. Their Teen Driver system makes up for areas where teen drivers may be lacking. Since the 2018 model year, all Chevy Equinox models have come equipped with Teen Driver technology. As any parent of a newly-minted driver knows, it can be a nerve-wracking experience, to say the least. Once teens are out on the road by themselves, parent stress levels go up with little control over their habits. Until now, that is. Having a system in your car to monitor and provide gentle reminders when you're not in the car can be a lifesaver.

Drivers in the age group from 16 to 19 have a higher risk of motor vehicle accidents than any other group. The most common causes of serious teen driver crashes arise from critical errors relating to inexperience. The first is a lack of scanning or lack of awareness, i.e., missing objects, people, or impediments on the road. The second is going too fast for road conditions, and the third is being distracted. As you can guess, cell phones are a common cause of this third issue.

So, how does Chevy's Teen Driver Technology protect your child from themselves while driving? To begin with, only 61% of high school students wear a seatbelt while riding with someone. Therefore, Chevy's industry-first buckle-to-drive feature prevents the driver from shifting out of park while unbuckled. It also mutes the radio until both the driver and passengers are buckled in. Parents can create a PIN in the vehicle's settings menu for a registered key fob to activate the system. Once the teen driver's key fob is registered, Teen Driver settings are turned on automatically when it is used to start the vehicle.

The Teen Driver system has many other features to encourage safe driving as the vehicle is on the road. Parents can limit the maximum speed of the car to 85 mph. They can also help teach their youthful driver by setting a speed warning between 40 to 75 mph. A visual alert and an audible chime will provide notice if the driver exceeds this speed. Any other optional active safety features will automatically be activated as well when the teen's key fob is used to start the vehicle.
