The best that Ford offers for the F-150 Lightning is a system with 580 hp, which still falls short of the starting Silverado EV model—not to mention the available Max Range battery that boosts performance with Chevy’s truck to an insane 760 hp.
All this power is only part of the equation; with EVs like this, you want something that lets you drive a long time, especially while towing. The starting F-150 Lightning has 240 miles of estimated range from a full charge, while its best model can get up to 320 miles of range.
By comparison, the starting point for the Silverado EV is 408 miles from a full charge, showcasing just how fantastic the engineering of Chevy’s truck truly is. You get greater towing capacity with the Silverado EV, too, along with remarkable tech features like a massive 17.7-inch infotainment display inside (compared to Ford’s standard 12-inch screen); all of this comes together to make a powerful and sophisticated truck that is ready to help you do any job.

When you are looking at and comparing conventional gas-powered vehicles, especially full-size trucks, you always want to consider the powertrain and overall engineering. With all-electric trucks, you want to check out the battery and motor system since so much of your driving experience depends on how they have been designed.
Both the 2025 Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning have a lot to offer, but Chevy simply gives you more in pretty much every conceivable way. One thing we are happy to see with both of these trucks is that they come with dual-motor electric all-wheel drive standard, so you do not have to worry about something that delivers poor handling on the road.
Beyond this similarity, however, there are massive differences in the actual performance and engineering of these two trucks, which gives Chevy an incredible advantage. Looking at the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning, it starts with a 98-kWh battery and a pair of motors that deliver 452 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque.
This is not a huge power to start with, but we like the fact that every F-150 Lightning delivers robust torque. An available 123-kWh Extended Range battery boosts performance a bit to 536 hp, with the same torque. Finally, there is a 131-kWh Extended Range battery that pushes the F-150 Lightning to its limits with 580 hp and still 775 lb-ft of torque.
You can see that the performance of Ford’s electric truck is nothing to sneeze at—those kinds of numbers in a conventional light-duty truck would certainly give you some bragging rights. However, it is nothing compared to what Chevy has created with the 2025 Silverado EV. The starting LT model features an Extended Range battery and a pair of motors that provide 645 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque.
If you go with the RST and the Extended Range battery, it pushes that up to 785 lb-ft of torque, which you can see blows away the best performance from Ford’s truck. Taking things to another level entirely, the RST with its available Max Range battery delivers 760 hp and 786 lb-ft of torque, providing a driving experience that surpasses anything you have felt before in a truck.
Range and Capabilities
Impressive power and performance in a truck are something we always look for, but you also want to know that your pickup can help you handle any task. Whether you are getting building materials to a jobsite or hauling supplies home for a weekend landscaping project, you need to know you can count on your pickup to tackle some serious weight and get you where you need to go. Both of these trucks can get a lot done and have impressive range, although there is no denying that the Silverado EV once again gives you more.
The range you get with these two trucks depends largely on which battery you choose, so consider your overall driving experience when shopping. Ford offers three batteries: the 98-kWh battery gets an estimated 240 miles of range from a full charge, the 123-kWh Extended Range battery boosts that up to 300 miles, while the 131-kWh battery tops out at 320 miles of estimated range.
Although those are good numbers, Chevy demolishes them. The Extended Range battery gives the Silverado EV an estimated 408 miles of range from a full charge; going with the Max Range battery gets you up to 460 miles of estimated range. This far surpasses what Ford provides, ensuring you can go further without stops to charge.
Getting where you need to go is vital, but you also need to be able to handle a lot of different work with your truck. The F-150 Lightning, with its starting battery, gets 7,700 lbs of maximum towing and 2,000 lbs of max payload capacity. Going with the more-powerful batteries boosts towing to 10,000 lbs, but also lowers payload to 1,800 lbs at the maximum.
Although Ford gets a slight edge with its maximum payload since the Silverado EV tops out at 1,800 lbs of payload capacity, it cannot match Chevy’s engineering for towing. The Silverado EV can handle 12,500 lbs of maximum towing, far exceeding what the F-150 Lightning can do, while giving you the muscle you need to solve any problems life throws at you.
Technology
All-electric trucks like the Silverado EV and F-150 Lightning are showcases for modern automotive technology in every way. Not only do they deliver all-electric power and performance that puts most gas-powered engines to shame, but they also tend to come with the latest tech features for you to enjoy while you drive.
Although we expect impressive technology from Chevy, we are still blown away by the features that the Silverado EV comes with, both standard and available. The F-150 Lightning has a lot to offer, but it simply cannot keep up.
Speaking of which, the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning has numerous trim levels, starting with the Pro model that features a SYNC 4 12-inch infotainment display, a 12-inch Digital Instrument Cluster screen, and basic AM/FM stereo.
Vinyl seats are standard in the Pro model, along with Cruise Control and Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control. Things get better in higher trims of the F-150 Lightning: going with the Platinum model, for example, delivers a larger 15.5-inch SYNC 4A infotainment display, a B&O Unleashed sound system, a wireless charging pad, and leather seating that is a major upgrade from the standard vinyl seats.
Looking at the 2025 Silverado EV and its starting LT model, Chevy gives you an absolutely stunning 17.7-inch infotainment display with Google built-in, which makes it easy to use a wide range of apps and features. This is paired with an 11-inch color Driver Information Center screen, a seven-speaker Bose Premium sound system, and Evotex seating with 12-way power-adjustable front seats that are heated and ventilated. Going with the available RST model, you get gorgeous interior features along with a 14-inch multicolor Head-Up Display and GM’s innovative Super Cruise hands-free driving system with towing support.
