The interior features that surround you when you get inside can have a big impact on that, which is why they are so important. Chevy understands this well.
To be fair, Ford also understands this, and you can find a lot of good features inside its vehicles, including the 2026 Escape. Ultimately, however, we find that the Equinox gives you more to enjoy and does so at a lower price. So you keep more money in your pocket, while making the most of every moment you spend on the road. That’s a combination that is hard to beat.
Tech and Convenience Features
Some of the most important features you will find inside a vehicle are the kinds of technology that you interact with as you drive. These things can be thought of as luxurious extras, but they are becoming more integrated into every part of vehicles these days. You want good tech systems that are easy to use, whether you need navigation info or want to adjust your A/C.
Looking at the 2026 Ford Escape and its standard trim, the Active, we find some fine features that are decent but far from exceptional. For starters, we see an eight-inch center display for the SYNC 4 infotainment system, along with a second eight-inch screen for the driver cluster display. These are fine, but definitely not as large as we would expect given the price of this model. A six-speaker sound system is standard, along with Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start, although Remote Start remains an available extra.

Options like a heated steering wheel and heated seats are available, but they are not standard, which is unfortunate when you consider that this SUV starts at a higher price than Chevy’s model.
Speaking of which, the 2026 Equinox LT comes with some similar features, including a six-way manual driver’s seat and a four-way front passenger seat. Cloth seating is also standard in the Equinox, but you get heated front seats included with every model, even the starting LT trim. You get a wrapped steering wheel in the Equinox, which is also heated—again, even in the starting trim. Available upgrades like eight-way power front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control let you take things even further, making the Equinox an amazing choice at every trim level.

Standard Safety Systems
We love looking at standard safety tech because it says a lot about the priorities of a car company. Ford comes through quite well with the 2026 Escape. Its base Active trim includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, a Lane-Keeping System, and a Blind Spot Information System. Ford also provides Rear Cross-Traffic Braking and cruise control as standard features. Overall, this makes for a safe ride; we might prefer Chevy models, but we are always happy to see vehicles that protect their drivers.
With the Chevy Equinox, you get equally impressive standard safety tech, including Forward Collision Alert, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. You even get Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Rear Park Assist all included standard on every trim. What’s more, a Safety Alert Seat that uses directional vibrations to warn you about dangers is also standard, along with adaptive cruise control to make long road trips less stressful.
Available Driver-Assistance Features
Along with the impressive standard features you get, both of these vehicles have more safety tech available if you want some upgrades. Chevy offers enhancements like a rear camera mirror and HD Surround Vision, which gives you improved visibility around your vehicle while maneuvering at low speeds. It might not be the most important thing, but it is still something that Chevy’s designers clearly understand.
Exterior Design Options
Both of these SUVs look nice from the outside, but we find the overall design and flow of the 2026 Chevy Equinox superior. For one thing, you will find a distinct front grille on each Equinox trim, giving them their own visual identity that immediately catches the eye. Chevy also provides interesting overall styling choices and options for the Equinox, including larger wheels on certain trims and two-tone exterior color options. When you see the ACTIV trim in Cacti Green with a Summit White top, you cannot help but stop and stare a little.
The Ford Escape looks nice enough, but we find that it lacks that extra something special that we see in the different Equinox trims. Most Escape trims feature the same mesh upper grille, and you could easily mistake one for another, whereas the Equinox trims feel far more distinct. We also do not see two-tone exterior colors or similar options that really make a splash, so ultimately, the Escape just feels a bit underwhelming compared to what Chevy delivers.
Trim Levels and Flexibility
Although both SUVs offer different trim levels, we find that Chevy provides more overall flexibility. Looking at the Ford Escape, the move from one trim to the next generally just feels like a steady progression, a straight line with little real creativity. Typically, each trim has only a few better features than the previous one.
With the Chevy Equinox, however, things are much more interesting. Along with improved features, you also find unique exterior and interior details. After the base LT trim, you have the sporty RS and rugged ACTIV, each with its own aesthetic and great features. Both upgraded models are priced the same, so you can choose the look that best matches your style.
