If you are in the market for a mid-size crossover that is great in the city and can handle a bit of off-roading too, then you need to be comparing the 2020 Chevy Blazer vs 2020 Kia Sorento. These models are both well-equipped for daily city driving, but one is better for heading off on weekend adventures.

Let’s first take a look at the general size of each vehicle. The 2020 Chevy Blazer seats five people and offers 30.5 cubic feet of storage space behind the back row. By folding down that last row of seating, you can expand this area up to 64.2 cubic feet. As for the 2020 Kia Sorento, it can carry seven passengers, but it only offers 11.3 cubic feet of room behind the third row. While the maximum cargo area is measured at 73 cubic feet, most families won’t be folding down both back rows of seating to take a road trip. Aside from being athletic mid-size models, these two vehicles don’t have much else in common. Let’s take a closer look at the performance specs, interior features, and exterior styling elements of both SUVs.

  • Performance

A red 2020 Chevy Blazer, which wins when comparing the 2020 Chevy Blazer vs 2020 Kia Sorento, is driving in a tunnel near Albany, NY.

The first thing city folks tend to look for in an SUV is fuel efficiency. The ability to handle a bit of off-roading too is also on the list of priorities.

    2020 Chevy Blazer

With the new 2020 Chevy Blazer, buyers have the freedom to choose between three different engines. This is a big deal because most SUVs only offer one or two choices. The Blazer engines are based on trim level. The L and 1LT trims both come standard with a 2.5-L 4-cylinder engine that generates 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. The estimated fuel economy is set at 24 mpg combined (21 city/27 highway). Moving up to the 2LT and 3LT trims will get you a turbocharged 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine that pushes out 230 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Optional on both of these trims and standard on the RS and Premier is a powerful 3.6-L V6 engine. It produces 308 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and gets about 22 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway). All of these engines are mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission and FWD. However, the higher trims can be equipped with AWD, which is what you will want if you intend on hitting the wild outdoors. The maximum towing capacity for these vehicles is set at 4,500 pounds when properly equipped.

    2020 Kia Sorento

The 2020 Kia Sorento is available with one of two engine options. Again, which one you get depends mainly on the trim level you choose. The L and LX trims fearture a 2.4-L I4 engine that produces 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain has a fuel economy set at 25 mpg combined (22 city/29 highway), and it can tow up to 2,000 pounds. Stepping up to the S, EX Sport and SX trims will get you a 3.3-L V6 that generates 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. While the fuel economy is lower at 22 mpg combined (19 city/26 highway), it can tow up to 2,500 pounds. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and FWD. AWD is optional on all trims except for the base L model.

Comfort, convenience, safety, and entertainment features are what most people typically look at next when deciding on a new vehicle. These elements all vary greatly depending on which trim level you choose. Most of the time, the lower trims are equipped with the bare-bones necessities to keep the price tag as economical as possible, and the upper trim level offers more luxurious features for a higher price point.

    2020 Chevy Blazer

For the 2020 Chevy Blazer base model, there’s so much more to it than the basics. Known as the L model, this version of the Blazer includes keyless ignition/entry and dual-zone climate control. Rear air vents have also been installed to keep the back row passengers comfortable as well. The well-equipped infotainment interface is displayed on an 8-inch touchscreen that operates with a 6-speaker stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OnStar. You can make calls hands-free, stream your favorite artists, integrate your top-used apps, and enjoy the numerous safety features that come with OnStar. Available throughout the cabin are two USB ports, two USB-C ports, and a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot to keep you connected everywhere you go. Want to post a family photo to your social media accounts from a scenic stop during your road trip? You can do that! Next is the 1LT version. This trim level adds tinted glass to help keep the cabin cool during the summer and satellite radio for more music options. Power-adjustable front seats are also included.

The next two trims are known as 2LT and 3LT. The 2LT gets the previously mentioned turbocharged engine and the option to add AWD. The 3LT model receives several upgrades, including heated seats, leather upholstery, remote start technology, and multiple safety features inducing blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and back parking sensors. Stepping up to the sporty RS model adds many athletic features. These include an upgraded driver information display, an extra set of USB and USB-C ports, a household-style power outlet, ambient cabin lights, and a heated steering wheel. A navigation system has also been included to help you get to your desired destination as quickly as possible. Finally, the top-tier Premier model adds heated seats throughout the cabin and ventilated seats in the front. This luxurious trim also gets a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, driver memory settings, and a premium 8-speaker Bose audio system. Additional optional features include a wireless charging pad to help declutter the cabin and numerous safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-departure mitigation, forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system.

    2020 Kia Sorento

The 2020 Kia Sorento L model comes with an infotainment system that uses a 7-inch touchscreen to operate with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. However, it does not come with OnStar or a Wifi hotspot. It also only has a single USB port for charging your mobile device. Next is the LX. This trim adds a noise-reducing windshield and power-adjustable front seats. If you opt for the Convenience package, you will also get automatic climate control, heated front seats, and leather accents on the shift knob and steering wheel.

Stepping up to the mid-level S will equip the larger V6 engine under the hood. Everything mentioned in the Convenience package is standard at this level, along with keyless ignition/entry and rear-seat climate controls. The EX sport adds athletic features such as an updated instrument panel and leather upholstery. A panoramic sunroof is the main highlight of this model. Lastly, the top-of-the-line SX model upgrades the infotainment interface to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a surround-view monitor. You can also listen to satellite radio through the 10-speaker Harman Kardon stereo and charge your smartphone with the wireless pad.
