If you have a large or growing family and need a vehicle that gives you seating for more than five people, plus plenty of space for everything you need to bring along with you, then it is hard to beat a full-size SUV. With that in mind, the Chevy Suburban is one of the largest SUVs on the road, delivering comfortable and spacious seating across three rows along with a massive amount of cargo space inside. Sometimes, a new model year for an SUV brings a few updates like a new paint color—or nothing at all—but other times, a change in model year can make a huge difference. That is precisely what we see when looking at the 2025 Chevy Suburban vs 2024 Chevy Suburban and the major update it has received.
Although not the launch of an all-new generation, Chevy has refreshed and updated the Suburban for 2025 with a slew of new features and options inside and out. For starters, the available diesel engine for the Suburban enjoys the enhanced tuning and revised engineering that we have seen on the full-size Chevy Silverado pickup. This means if you want a diesel engine for your large SUV, you will get to enjoy substantially greater horsepower and torque by waiting for a 2025 Suburban. Not only that, but Chevy’s engineers have enhanced the ride quality and handling for this year’s Suburban, so you get more power and a better experience every time you get behind the wheel.
Outside, the Suburban has been updated with bolder signature lighting that makes an immediate statement both day and night. You will also find revised wheel options, including massive 24-inch wheels that are available on RST and High Country models. Looking inside, the 2025 Suburban enjoys an updated and refreshed interior that is beautifully arranged and includes a stunning 17.7-inch infotainment display in every model, paired with an 11-inch Driver Information Center screen that makes for an intuitive and relaxing driving experience. Add in more tech features like Super Cruise being available on more models and an enhanced Connected Cameras system that lets you view your vehicle’s cameras remotely, and you have a unique driving experience that perfectly builds on what came before it.
The engine in something like a compact sedan might not matter that much, but when you are looking at a massive, full-size SUV, then it is very important. Chevy understands this better than just about anyone else and they offer three excellent engines in the Suburban to meet these needs. Both the 2024 and 2025 models have the same two gas engines available: a 355-hp 5.3L V8 and a 6.2L V8 that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. If you are looking for something that you will not find on many SUVs out there, then the Suburban also offers a diesel engine, but its performance is improved for 2025.
For both the 2024 and 2025 Chevy Suburban, there is a 3.0L Duramax turbo diesel I-6 engine available; what sets them apart is the power they offer. The 2024 model has a diesel engine that provides 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, which is great, but you lose quite a bit of horsepower choosing it rather than the 6.2L V8. With the 2025 Suburban, you get a diesel engine that delivers 305 hp and a monstrous 495 lb-ft of torque. This is still less horsepower, but not as much of a difference, plus more torque than the V8 engine has to offer. It is a significant improvement for this diesel engine compared to last year’s model and one of the things we are most excited about with this SUV.
Beyond this engine, you also get a better overall driving experience for the updated 2025 model. The current multilink independent rear suspension has been revised and enhanced for more refined ride quality, and improvements have been made to the steering calibration for more precise control. Handling has similarly been improved through these changes and updates, plus you can still get Magnetic Ride Control for one of the fastest-reacting damping systems on any suspension out there for incredible comfort. Combine that with the Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, available on both 2024 and 2025 models, and you have an incredible driving experience that minimizes drag to optimize performance and efficiency.
The first thing many people will notice about the 2025 Chevy Suburban, particularly if you look at it next to the 2024 model, is how the exterior has been refreshed and updated for the new model year. Although looks might not be everything, we cannot deny that it is nice to have a stylish vehicle. The 2024 Suburban already looks fantastic, so it is saying something that Chevy’s designers have managed to enhance its striking appearance for the 2025 model.
A refreshed front-end features new front fascias across all six trim levels for the 2025 Suburban, with certain ones having additional design features you will not find on others. Along with this, the lighting has been greatly enhanced on the Suburban, including a more integrated appearance for the daytime running lights that are thinner yet more prominent than before, thanks to how they have been configured and arranged. Dual C-shaped lighting creates a cohesive look across all modern Chevy SUVs, while certain new features elevate things further. The Premier and High Country models, for example, have welcome and walk-away lighting animations and animated turn signals that set them apart from other models.
Similarly, the Z71 trim for the Suburban, which is a popular option for heading outdoors, includes unique touches to make it more rugged and capable than ever before. It has skid plates and a high-approach front fascia incorporated into its overall design, whereas something like the High Country goes for more of a stylish look by featuring black details and Galvano chrome trim. Most remarkably, massive 24-inch wheels are new and available for the 2025 Suburban RST and High Country models, refreshing its looks even further.
Although the updated exterior of the 2025 Chevy Suburban might get a lot of attention, going inside, you will find plenty of enhanced features and great new options. That is not to say that the 2024 Suburban is any slouch regarding impressive tech; Chevy has simply gone further than ever with this update. For example, the 2024 Suburban features a standard 8.0-inch infotainment display with a 10.2-inch infotainment screen available to enhance your driving experience. Joining this is a 4.2-inch color Driver Information Center screen as the standard feature or a larger 12-inch screen as an available option.
That is great, but Chevy is certainly not resting on its laurels here, as evidenced by the fact that an absolutely gorgeous 17.7-inch infotainment display is now standard inside all 2025 Suburban models, regardless of which trim level you look at. This screen is canted slightly toward you as the driver, giving you a greater feeling of being surrounded by a cockpit designed around you in every aspect. You also get an 11-inch Driver Information Center display standard in every model, providing you with two massive screens that offer all of the information and data you need to be able to easily keep an eye on.
Along with this stunning screen, the center console has been redesigned with more storage options and a better overall configuration, including a more convenient location for the available wireless charging pad. More sophisticated touches and accents can be found inside, like the Victory Red stitching unique to the 2025 Suburban RST or the new Jet Black/Sky Cool Gray interior for the Premier—plus authentic wood details inside the High Country. Perhaps most impressive, the new Connected Cameras system that is available lets you remotely view interior and exterior cameras on the Suburban and even record events like a collision. All of this comes together to create an incredible driving experience beyond anything previously available.
