Both the Trax and Trailblazer are subcompact SUVs found as the first two entries in Chevy’s SUV lineup, so comparing them to each other is quite fair. It is not like considering the Trax against the full-size Suburban, where you will find wildly different features. These are both similar in size, with two rows of seating for up to five people; that said, there are still key differences between them. For example, the Trax has a single engine on offer, making it easy to focus on other features; the Trailblazer starts with the same engine, but a second engine is available to give you more options. Not only that, but you can also get all-wheel drive (AWD) with the Trailblazer, while the Trax strictly has front-wheel drive (FWD) available.
Looking inside, these two SUVs are nearly identical in terms of how much space they give you for the people in your life and the stuff you need to bring along with you. That said, there are some interesting differences between them in terms of the trim levels and features you will find; overall, you get slightly upgraded standard features with the Trailblazer, which makes sense, given its higher starting price. Fortunately, no matter which one of these two SUVs you choose, you will get terrific standard and available safety features with them. There is no denying that the 2025 Chevy Trax and Trailblazer both have a lot in common; in particular, they are very similar in size. And yet, there are some key differences between them too. Case in point, the kind of engines you can choose with them and the overall performance they deliver is substantially different between these two models. If you are unsure which one is better for you but are certain you like their overall looks and features, then this could be the perfect place to start.
The Trax features a single available engine: a 1.2L turbocharged engine that provides 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, which is great for a subcompact SUV like this. It comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission for a responsive driving experience that feels quite comfortable and accommodating overall. FWD is standard on the Trax and the only option, though you can get 17-inch, 18-inch, or 19-inch wheels, depending on the trim level you choose. The Trax gets an estimated 28 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway for fuel efficiency.
With the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer, you get more options for your engines and performance. It starts with the same 1.2L turbocharged engine and FWD; this is paired with a continuously variable transmission on the Trailblazer resulting in a slightly better 30 MPG in the city for estimated fuel economy. More importantly, however, there is a second engine available for the Trailblazer: a 1.3L turbocharged option that delivers 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque for added power and performance. You can also get AWD with this engine, though FWD is still standard with it, giving you more options to enjoy while driving. If you like the feel of the standard 1.2L engine, then both of these SUVs can get the job done; but if you want the more powerful option or AWD, then you should go with the Trailblazer.
Much of your enjoyment of your vehicle is likely to come down to the kinds of features you have inside it, which can make your daily drive easier and more relaxing. Chevy understands this as well as anyone else in the industry, so they deliver vehicles with great features inside and out designed to enhance your drive day after day. Both the Trax and Trailblazer showcase this beautifully, though there are some notable differences between them; this is understandable since there is a bit of a gap between their starting price tags. Each model has numerous trim levels on offer that let you customize your experience, though there is one more available with the Trax than you can find on the Trailblazer.
The standard features on the starting Trax LS model include an 8-inch infotainment display, a four-speaker sound system, and a 3.5-inch Driver Information Center screen in the gauge cluster. You get comfortable cloth seating in the standard LS along with a six-way driver’s seat and four-way front-passenger seat, plus cruise control and remote keyless entry. If you go with a higher trim level, like the 2RS, then you get a number of upgraded features, like an 11-inch infotainment display that looks stunning, an 8-inch Driver Information Center, and a six-speaker sound system. The 2RS also comes with comfortable Evotex seating, heated front seats, and a wrapped heated flat-bottom steering wheel for an enhanced driving experience.
Looking at the 2025 Trailblazer, it also starts with an LS trim, but standard features here include the 11-inch Infotainment display and 8-inch Driver Information Center, with a six-speaker sound system. We find similar upholstery here: cloth seating with a six-way driver’s seat and four-way front-passenger seat, plus single-zone climate control and cruise control are standard. If you go up to the available RS trim for the Trailblazer, you get upgraded features like heated front seats with Evotex seating, plus an eight-way power driver’s seat with two-way power lumbar. Both of these models have a panoramic power sunroof available, though the Trailblazer can be equipped with a seven-speaker Bose premium sound system.
Few car companies out there are innovating safety technology quite as quickly and effectively as Chevy—they continue to bring bold new tech to the road year after year. As far as we are concerned, nothing is more important when it comes to your next vehicle than how well it can keep you and your loved ones safe. Fortunately, this is not something you have to sacrifice by going with one of these two models over the other. They both come with Chevy Safety Assist standard on every trim level.
For both the Trax and Trailblazer, this Chevy Safety Assist package includes a Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking with Front Pedestrian Braking. This helps to warn you about a potential crash and provides additional braking support to help you avoid it. You also get a Following Distance Indicator to warn you when you are too close to the vehicle ahead of you, plus IntelliBeam auto high beams that turn off automatically when oncoming traffic is detected to avoid blinding other drivers. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning is also included with this package, plus you get Chevy’s Teen Driver system on both models to help build safe habits in young drivers.
Both of these models also have a number of extra safety systems available thanks to a Driver Confidence Package offered on certain trims. This includes Rear Park Assist, a Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert for the Trax. You can get these same upgrades as part of a similar Driver Confidence Package for the Trailblazer too, so you do not have to worry about missing out on great safety tech just because one of these two models works better for your driving needs than the other.
As you can see, both the 2025 Chevy Trax and Trailblazer are terrific subcompact SUVs—your decision should ultimately come down to what you need from your next vehicle and which one better delivers those things. If you are looking for a simple car-buying experience with most options coming down to interior features and extra niceties, then the Trax could be a good pick. On the other hand, if you want to be able to choose between a couple of engines and you are looking for AWD in your next SUV, then the Trailblazer is likely a better choice.
