Buying a vehicle isn’t like buying most things. Just because you want a car doesn’t mean you’ve made your final decision. There are many things you must consider when purchasing a car, one of which is what trim you’ll want to buy. So, directing our attention to what may be the most well-rounded trim for one of the best-selling trucks in America, here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST.

What Is Performance Like?

Something great about the RST is that it’s only one of two trims that can incorporate any available powertrain the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST offers. The four available powertrains include the turbocharged 2.7L I-4 engine with its 8-speed automatic transmission standard – the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST has this powertrain standard – along with 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines, and a turbo-diesel 3.0L I-6 engine, all with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

If your 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST is in stock, it’ll come with a turbocharged 2.7L I-4 engine, which offers 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. With this powertrain in place, your 2024 Silverado 1500 RST will pull a maximum of 9,500 lbs with an extraordinary payload capacity of 2,260 lbs. For the 5.3L V8 engine, ratings push upward with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, plus a marketed improvement in towing strength with an uptick to 11,300 lbs. This V8 engine comes standard with RWD, but you can opt for a 4×4 drivetrain, which comes standard on the 6.2L V8 engine. Fuel efficiency is slightly better with the rear-wheel drivetrain, but 4WD models match the fuel efficiency of models with the 6.2L V8 engine, which only offers 4WD.

The 6.2L V8 engine and the turbo-diesel 3.0L I-6 engines provide the best towing capacities, but the 6.2L V8 engine has the most horsepower and torque output. The turbo-diesel powertrain makes up for it with remarkable fuel efficiency – coupled with the tie for the highest towing capacity, and it’s clear why the turbodiesel engine is such a great choice. As for the performance with the 6.2L V8 engine, you get 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque with a towing capacity of 13,300 lbs.

Let’s circle back around and talk more about that turbodiesel powertrain. The turbodiesel engine is perhaps the best all-round choice if you want the best mixture of everything. The turbodiesel 3.0L I-6 engine provides 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 lbs. Fuel efficiency is excellent, with 23 MPG in the city, even with 4WD. However, your Silverado 1500 RST with RWD will earn 29 MPG in the city and 26 MPG combined, while a 4WD Silverado RST earns 27 MPG on the highway and 24 MPG combined.

What Are Your Cargo Options?

You’re presented with three available bed sizes when you purchase your 2024 Silverado 1500 RST and three cab types. Your cab types include a regular cab, a double cab, and a crew cab. The regular cab is the smallest of the three, and without any seats behind the first row, Silverado 1500 RST models with this cab type have a maximum seating capacity of three passengers. The double and crew cabs, however, have that second row of seats, which doubles the passenger capacity to six.

What about the three options for bed sizes? When you purchase a 2024 Silverado 1500 RST, you can choose between a 5.8’, 6.6’, or 8.2’-long bed. These three beds are known as the short, standard, and long beds. The shortest of the three –which also dictates the least cargo space available for the truck – still provides more than ample 62.9 cu.ft. of space. The 6.6’-long bed is noticeably spacier, and understandably so, with a 14% increase in space, bringing the total cargo room to 71.7 cu.ft. for the standard bed. With the long bed, an even deeper gap forms between it and the other two bed sizes. This is thanks to its 89.1 cu.ft. of space, which isn’t only 24% more than the standard bed and about 42% more than the short bed.

What’s It Like Inside the Cabin?

Sitting inside the cabin of the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST is a comfortable experience, thanks to a roomy interior coupled with a range of premium amenities. Let’s start by talking about the interior measurements because many drivers worry about this before they purchase a vehicle. In the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST, you get 43.03 inches of headroom and 44.53 inches of legroom – both front rows. You and your front seat passenger will also have 66.02 inches of shoulder room and 61.18 inches of hip room, resulting in a driving experience that leaves nothing to be desired as you’ll have a cabin that’s tall, long, and wide – the ideal experience.

These front-row ratings are great, but what if you have one of the cabs with a second row of seats? Back seat passengers enjoy much of the same benefits as the front row with ample measurements all around. The second row of your 2024 Silverado 1500 RST offers passengers 40.12 inches of headroom and 43.4 inches of legroom, followed by 65.16 and 60.24 inches of shoulder and hip room, respectively.

Now that you know you’ll have plenty of stretching room let’s talk about the amenities that make up most of the interior experience. Standard with the 2024 Silverado RST is a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power-lumbar support. The 10-way power-adjustable seat is great because it’s not only about how many possible seating positions there are but that you can change them all using nothing more than the clicks of buttons. Also, having lumbar support is helpful because many hard-working adults know the difficulties that can stem from having a sore lower back. With the power-lumbar support, your lower back is nestled in a comfortable seat just as the rest of your back is.

A Fantastic Set of Features

Your 2024 Silverado 1500 RST will come with several incredible features that you won’t need to spend any extra money at the dealership to get. We already mentioned the 10-way power-adjustable seat, but what we haven’t mentioned are the amazing tech features that come with the truck, along with ones that can be added to it, too. Let’s start with the infotainment center.

The 2024 Silverado 1500 is available with two infotainment centers, but the RST uses the larger and more capable of the two: the 13.4-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium System created in conjunction with Google built-in. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the infotainment center while untethered from your phone thanks to wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and the RST is one of the Silverado 1500 trims that offers an available wireless phone charging pad.

Safety features also make a strong showing with the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST. The safety features that will come standard with your truck include a Following Distance Indicator, a Forward Collision Alert working alongside Automatic Emergency Braking, and Front Pedestrian Braking. The 2024 Silverado 1500 RST also has Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, along with the optional Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Rear Pedestrian Alert.

The Perfect Trim?

Is the RST the perfect trim for the 2024 Silverado 1500? The perfect trim could be different for everyone, but there’s one thing that’s certain: the RST is perhaps the best trim for the most thorough Silverado 1500 experience. The RST is also one of the most customizable trims out of the lineup, especially with its four powertrains, three cabs, and a trio of bed options. If there’s a pickup truck you’re buying this year, you should buy the 2024 Silverado 1500 RST.
