Appropriately, the only used SUV that can match the Suburban for supremacy is another vehicle under the General Motors banner. The GMC Yukon XL is built on the same platform as the Suburban and features identical interior measurements, complemented by a more sophisticated style. Buying a used SUV gives you slightly more cargo room, as a design change introduced for 2026 on the Suburban (2025 on the Yukon XL) lowered the maximum to 144.5 cu.ft.

Cadillac Escalade ESV

You can enjoy plenty of cargo space and have high-class interior materials, tech, convenience features, and more thanks to GM’s Cadillac badge. The ESV (Escalade Stretch Vehicle) has also shared a platform with the Suburban and Yukon XL since 2021. However, this full-size SUV utilizes a slightly different interior design to emphasize passenger comfort.

As such, cargo space isn’t quite as big as its cousins, but it’s close. Each Escalade ESV has 142.8 cu.ft. of total cargo space, 94.1 cu.ft. behind row two, and 41.5 cu.ft. behind row three. It’s a great choice for Troy drivers who want ample space for their belongings, along with the status and pride that come with driving a luxury vehicle.

Jeep Wagoneer L

Great off-roading capability meets impressive on-board storage with the Wagoneer L, the premium SUV with a tough side. Designed as a long-wheelbase version of the Wagoneer for its triumphant return in 2022, it registers 130.9 total cu.ft. when all the seats are down. That’s the most you can get in a used Jeep, and everything from suitcases to hockey equipment will be riding in style.

What might particularly interest Capital District drivers, though, is that when all the seats are up, the Wagoneer L has 42.1 cu.ft. for cargo. That’s more than the Suburban, Yukon XL, or Escalade ESV, making it an ideal vehicle when you regularly have a full boat of passengers. Total space when the third row is down measures 85.3 cu.ft. The regular Jeep Wagoneer is a fine pick as well, with 116.7 cu.ft. in its most cargo-friendly configuration.

Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon

The Bowtie Brigade and its GMC counterpart make their second appearance on this list with another strong performer. Like the Suburban/Yukon XL, the Tahoe/Yukon was redesigned for 2021, and the more efficient powertrains introduced also greatly increased passenger and cargo space. In the case of the shorter Tahoe/Yukon, Troy drivers receive 25.5 cu.ft. behind the third row, 72.6 cu.ft. behind the second row, and 122.9 cu.ft. with both rows folded down.

Despite the lower raw cargo numbers, some people may prefer the Tahoe/Yukon over the Suburban/Yukon XL. It still has lots of space, but the shorter length makes it a little easier to maneuver through downtown Troy traffic or on technical terrain. It also slightly increases towing capacity since both use the same engines as their larger, heavier versions. Either way, you’re getting a great full-size SUV that you can stuff to the gills.

Ford Expedition Max
