Many drivers love the performance, fuel economy, affordability, and maneuverability of smaller vehicles. Subcompact SUVs like the Chevy Trailblazer are ideal for drivers who want a great way to commute to work or school each day. They get you great fuel economy while not costing a lot of money. Their smaller size also makes them perfectly easy to park in downtown Amsterdam, whether you’re on a side street or pulling into a tight parking spot. However, many folks are concerned about driving a subcompact because of safety. They think that smaller vehicles won’t do well in a potential collision.

This is one of the reasons why people who want the benefits of a small SUV should consider the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer. Not only is it budget-friendly and fun to drive, with a style all its own, but the Trailblazer is also a very safe vehicle, which is due in part to all of the standard active safety features on this vehicle, courtesy of the Chevy Safety Assist suite. This is why many folks who want a safe subcompact SUV should look for a Chevy Trailblazer for sale near Amsterdam. At DePaula Chevrolet, we are proud to offer Amsterdam drivers like you this great model. Let’s take a closer look at how the Trailblazer is looking out for you on the road with an array of intuitive features that are included in the standard Chevy Safety Assist package.

What Is Chevy Safety Assist?

Over the years, Chevy has demonstrated a commitment to passenger safety, working on active and passive safety features to reduce accidents and improve the performance of its vehicles when involved in collisions. Items like passive restraints, anti-lock brakes, and airbags are standard features on every vehicle Chevy offers. However, the folks at Chevy wanted to take a step to improve passenger safety by reducing the odds of getting involved in a collision. This is why the brand features the Chevy Safety Assist suite.

Introduced in time for the 2020 model year, Chevy Safety Assist is a suite of active driver assistance and safety features. It utilizes cameras, sensors, and radar to help identify threats before they arise, allowing the driver and vehicle to take evasive action. The 2025 Chevy Trailblazer features six different technologies to help you avoid an accident or reduce the impact of one that is unavoidable.

Following Distance Indicator

Tailgating is a major cause of front-end collisions. Even with a great set of brakes and a relatively light weight, the Trailblazer still needs some distance to come to a safe stop. However, sometimes we may not realize we are getting too close to the vehicle in front of us. The Following Distance Indicator that comes standard on the Trailblazer will let you know if you are too close to the vehicle in front of you. It will provide a gap time in seconds, letting you know if you are too close and need to reduce speed.

Forward Collision Alert

When a vehicle in front of you stops short, you may not realize it until it is too late. Rear-ending another vehicle can result in major injuries to you, your passengers, and those people riding in the other vehicle. Forward Collision Alert helps you avoid this tragedy. The cameras and sensors on your Trailblazer work constantly. They won’t be distracted by the road or things happening inside the cabin. The Forward Collision Alert will detect that the vehicle in front of you has slowed down or stopped before you do, giving you time to brake or take evasive action.

Automatic Emergency Braking

Chevy Safety Assist does more than just alert you to danger. It can actually operate some of the systems on your Trailblazer to keep you and your passengers safe. One of these active features is Automatic Emergency Braking. When the system detects a potential front-end collision, it will not only signal to you through the Forward Collision Alert, but it will also engage the Automatic Emergency Braking. This will either bring your Trailblazer to a safe stop, avoiding the accident, or reduce the severity of the collision.

Front Pedestrian Braking

One of the newer features in the Chevy Safety Assist suite is Front Pedestrian Braking. This feature works like Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking, but is designed to reduce the chances of you accidentally hitting a pedestrian while driving your Trailblazer.

This feature works at slower speeds. When you are driving and the system detects a pedestrian in the path of your Trailblazer, it will sound an alert while engaging the vehicle’s emergency brakes. This will reduce the chances of colliding with a pedestrian while reducing the severity of the accident if you are unable to take effective evasive action.

Lane Keep Assist With Lane Departure Warning

Driving today involves a lot of potential distractions. You may be talking with another passenger, making a hands-free call or text on the Trailblazer’s infotainment system, or just looking for a favorite song to listen to. Maybe you are looking for a parking spot near the Amsterdam Riverfront. A momentary lapse of focus may lead to your vehicle drifting into an adjacent lane. This is especially dangerous when driving on a two-lane street, with your Trailblazer slowly drifting into oncoming traffic. Lane Keep Assist works in two ways. First, the Lane Departure Warning sounds an alert so you can get your focus back to driving. Second, it makes light adjustments to the steering wheel, getting you safely back into your lane.

IntelliBeam Auto High Beams

One thing that can be annoying about driving at night is when you enter areas with low light. Some of the more rural areas around Amsterdam don’t have street lights and lamp posts on their local roads. Adding to the difficulty is that many of these country roads have twists and turns. As a result, you may find yourself constantly turning your high-beam headlights on and off while trying to navigate these dark, challenging areas.

The solution to this problem is IntelliBeam. When the system detects that you are driving in an area with insufficient light, it will automatically turn on your Trailblazer’s high beams. This will provide you with the amount of illumination you need to drive safely at night.

IntelliBeam goes a step further. It will automatically turn off the high beam when it detects that outside lighting is sufficient. In addition, if the system detects another motorist either in front of you or approaching your Trailblazer, it will automatically turn off the high beams so that you will not distract the other motorist. This is why IntelliBeam is truly valuable, as it takes care of working the high beams so you can focus on your driving.

The Proof Is in the Ratings

Each year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs a series of tests on most new passenger vehicles sold in America. The group publishes its findings, letting motorists know the safest models available for sale. The 2025 Chevy Trailblazer received a 5-star overall safety rating, including five stars for overall frontal and side collision ratings. This is partly due to the Chevy Safety Assist features that are standard on all models of the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer, ensuring that the vehicle is looking out for you on the road.
