When it comes time to get service on your vehicle, you have a few options. Some people do a lot of the work themselves. Others visit a local mechanic. And then there are those who have a relationship with their dealer’s service department.

While there is nothing wrong with putting all your trust in your service department of choice, it doesn’t mean you should never ask questions. In fact, it is good practice to open up from time to time. Whether you’re in because you need tires in Albany, a simple oil change, or a major car repair, questions help you learn more about your vehicle from the people that keep it working its best.

This is the best way to ensure that you are on the same page regarding what is being done to your vehicle, as well as what to expect in the future.

Questions to Ask

Every service department visit is unique. For this reason, you never know what to expect. Even so, there are some questions that make more sense than others.

Here are a few of the most common:

  • What type of service do you recommend for my vehicle at the present time?
  • Can you complete all the necessary work at the same time?
  • How long will it take?
  • What is the cost of the scheduled service?
  • What should I keep an eye on for future appointments?

These questions will lead you down the right path. It leaves the service department in charge, but puts you in position to stay in the loop regarding what is being completed.

Is Something Wrong with your Vehicle?

While you hope this is never the case, it can happen from time to time. For example, you take your car in for a tire rotation but then learn that you need new brakes. This is an unpleasant surprise, but not something that you should hide from. Instead, work with your service department to get the work completed as soon as possible, at a price you can afford.

You should never shy away from asking questions. No matter what is on your mind, you should be open and honest with your service manager. This is the only way to ensure that your vehicle is in good hands and that you understand everything that is being done, inside and out.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few questions to better understand what your vehicle needs in order to perform at its peak. Most people don’t look forward to the service experience, but we do whatever it takes to ensure your satisfaction. That is why so many people continue to come back to us when their vehicle is in need of maintenance or repair.
