Check Out the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom

For some people, a full-size truck is a luxury item they want to transform into an office on wheels or a vehicle that feels more like a fancy SUV than a reliable pickup. But for many of us, if we’re looking at a hard-working truck like the Chevy Silverado 1500, we want something we can count on to get the job done without a bunch of extra flash and sparkle. If you’re looking at Chevy trucks for sale with an eye toward something that works hard and gives you great features without going overboard, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Custom trim.
The 2024 Silverado Custom is one of our favorite options for a work truck—yes, even more than the WT model, which literally means “work truck.” We find that the Custom hits the sweet spot of giving us the features we want, with a few extra options to meet a wide range of needs without ever getting too fancy for its own good. When shopping for a truck and sticking to a tight budget, it can feel like you don’t have many options, but the Silverado 1500 Custom gives you plenty of options to choose from, with excellent standard features if you’re not looking for any upgrades. Let’s look at the Custom, and you’ll see what we mean.
One Remarkable Engine
We all know that the engine can make or break a truck; so much else relies on the kind of power the engine delivers that nothing else matters if you find a pickup with a weak or middling powertrain. Fortunately, Chevy understands this, which is why the 2024 Silverado 1500 has one of the most remarkable standard engines in the industry. Better yet, this is the engine you’ll find in every Silverado 1500 Custom model on the market.
You get the new 2.7L TurboMax I-4 engine in the Silverado Custom, which delivers a remarkable 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. Sure, more powerful options are available for other Silverado trims, but most people we know are more than happy with this incredible TurboMax engine, the first of its kind. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and responsive driving experience, with a Tow/Haul mode that’s perfect for pulling a trailer behind you, plus Powertrain Grade Braking that maintains a desired speed when going downhill without wearing on your brakes.
When properly equipped, this engine lets the Silverado 1500 handle up to 9,500 lbs of maximum towing or up to 2,260 lbs of max payload capacity. While this falls short of the 13,300 lbs of maximum towing the Silverado 1500 can tackle with one of its most powerful engines, it still brings plenty of muscle to help you get your job done. For most of us, 9,000 lbs of towing is all we’ll ever really need, so consider what you’re trying to do with your truck and then choose accordingly to get the right vehicle at a great price.

Two Drive Types to Choose From
A concern that many people have when looking at something that’s not the pinnacle trim for a particular model is that choosing it means missing out on something. Fortunately, the Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom delivers fantastic options and features, including giving you the choice between two different drive types on most models. Depending on the configuration you choose (more on that in a moment), you can typically pick either a rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) version of the Silverado Custom. Going with a RWD model saves you some money, but we prefer 4WD to handle rough weather as well as dirt and gravel roads, giving you superior traction and control when you need it.
Three Configuration Options
While the Silverado has five different configurations available in total, the two regular cab models are only offered with the starting WT trim. If you go with the Custom (or any higher trim), then you have three other options available, which still give you fantastic configurations to choose from. The starting point is a model with a double cab, giving you seating for up to six people, along with a standard bed measuring about 80 inches in length. This double cab works just fine, but anyone in the rear seats will be a bit cramped, so it’s not ideal if you know you’re going to have a lot of passengers with you frequently.
If your budget allows for it, you also have two crew cab options available, which also gives you seating for up to six people, but you’ll find a lot more room in the rear seats here. You can get a crew cab with the same standard bed as the regular cab, but this is only available with 4WD or a model with a short bed that’s about 70 inches in length. The short bed starts at a slightly lower price than the standard bed crew cab version, but the difference is minimal, so think carefully about what you need to be able to fit into your truck bed before you choose.
A Bold and Functional Exterior
To get a sense of what the Custom model comes with, let’s look at one with the regular cab configuration. This model features 20-inch Bright Silver painted aluminum wheels, body-color front and rear bumpers, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, and a standard tailgate with EZ Lift assist, including power lock and release functionality. You get one of the most functional truck beds in the industry with the Custom, including 12 fixed tie-downs rated at 500 lbs per corner, along with a CornerStep rear bumper that makes it easy to get in and out of your truck bed, plus cab-mounted cargo area lamps that illuminate the bed so you can see what you’re doing at night.
Just the Right Interior Features
Inside the 2024 Silverado Custom, you get a functional interior without being decadent or overbearing. You’ll find a 7-inch infotainment display with a six-speaker sound system, along with a 3.5-inch monochromatic Driver Information Center screen. Cloth seating is standard in the Custom trim, with a 10-way power driver’s seat and four-way manual front-passenger seat, plus Remote Keyless Entry with Remote Start functionality. You get Cruise Control standard in the Custom, which makes your daily drive much easier, with USB ports to keep your phone charged.

Extra Options if You Need Them
If you’re interested in some upgrades for your truck, then there are a number of packages and options available for the Silverado 1500 Custom. This makes getting a few things you want easier without going up to a higher trim that might have stuff you don’t need. For example, there are a couple of Assist Step and Tonneau packages that give you side assist steps to make getting in and out of your truck easier, along with a soft tonneau cover for your truck bed. You also have a couple of options for a spray-in bedliner, which is a great way to protect your truck bed and keep it in beautiful shape for many years to come.
