Great Chevy Vehicles for Active Families

Clifton Park, and upstate New York in general, is a fantastic place to live if you enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. From taking your vehicle off-road to getting out for some hiking and camping, or driving an ATV or snowmobile through some rough and gorgeous terrain, whatever you’re into, you can find a place to do it nearby. As your Chevy dealership near Clifton Park, NY, we at DePaula Chevy are always excited about the different ways our customers, friends, and neighbors venture into the stunning wilderness around us. And, of course, we often have people coming to us looking for the best vehicle to support their active lifestyle.
If you find yourself wondering which vehicles will help you fully embrace the great outdoors and really enjoy yourself, then we’re here to help. So, today, we thought it would be fun to have a look at the Chevy lineup with this particular goal in mind. That means you’re not going to find the Camaro or Corvette here, nor is this a list for anyone interested in having a reliable sedan to drive around town all week. We’re only interested in the vehicles that are perfect for leaving civilization behind and exploring everything the gorgeous countryside around us has to offer.
In no particular order, here are six of our favorite Chevy vehicles for active people and families.
The 2021 Chevy Colorado
Depending on what you’re looking for, the 2021 Colorado could definitely be the best option for heading outdoors and staying active. This is a midsize truck, which means you’re not committing to a larger, full-size option while still getting excellent power and functionality. The midsize design is actually one of the main reasons many of our customers choose this option for staying active with a pickup.
This is a fantastic choice if you like to go off-road with your vehicle, due to the available ZR2 off-road trim level. The ZR2 includes an off-road suspension with a Multimatic DSSV damping system and increased ground clearance, making it a great choice for hitting the trail. When properly equipped, the Colorado has over a 1,500-lb payload capacity, so you can load up the back with a couple of dirt bikes. It can have up to 7,700 lbs of towing capacity, so even if you prefer to haul a trailer with ATVs in it or other outdoor gear, it can be a great option.
The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

If you want something bigger than the Chevy Colorado and need more muscle for what you have planned, then the Chevy Silverado 1500 is a fantastic option. This is a full-size truck, rather than a midsize model, which means it’s bigger inside and out. You might prefer the smaller Colorado for going off-road since it can navigate tight areas more effectively, but the standard Silverado is a fantastic choice with more power.
The Silverado 1500 does have an off-road package available: the Z71, which includes an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, automatic locking rear differential, and a metal underbody shield. Plus, when properly configured, the Silverado can have up to 2,250 lbs of payload capacity or up to 13,400 lbs of towing power. That lets you take a lot of gear with you, and it’s perfect for towing a trailer with a couple ATVs or snowmobiles to your favorite spot on the Lewis County ATV Trail System.
The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD
This certainly isn’t going to be the right option for everyone, but we still wanted to mention it. If you like the idea of a full-size truck, but need even more muscle than the standard Silverado 1500 can manage, then consider one of the HD or heavy-duty options. There are two different ones to choose from: the 2500HD and the 3500HD, both offer more towing and payload than the regular Chevy Silverado.
Since this is meant as more of a workhorse, you really won’t find an off-road package or trim here, but the power of these HD models is exceptional. They are perfect for handling really rough terrain, so if you’re planning on loading up a trailer with a couple of snowmobiles and getting into some wild areas, then this is a terrific choice. When properly configured, the Silverado 3500HD can have more than 7,000 lbs of payload and can tow more than 35,000 lbs. If you want to take a large camper or trailer with you to do some serious camping or you have a couple of large ATVs, then this can be a great option.
The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer
While trucks can be an excellent choice for a lot of people with active lifestyles, they’re not always the right solution. If you have a family that you want to be able to take with you, and you want to ride in luxury and comfort, then an SUV can be a better option. Consider the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer, for example, and everything it has to offer.
This is a small crossover SUV with seating for up to five people, so it’s an excellent choice for a small or moderately-sized family. It has AWD available, making it a terrific option for heading to a nearby park or trail, and more than 54 cu.ft. of interior cargo space. All of that interior space means you can pack it full of coolers and camping supplies, or even fit a kayak or similar craft inside for a day on the Mohawk River.

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe
If you have a larger family or need more room inside for your gear, then consider the all-new, redesigned Chevy Tahoe. This is a gorgeous full-size SUV that has seating for between seven and nine passengers, depending on the interior configuration you choose. That makes this a terrific choice for big families or large groups of friends that like to get together for a day, weekend, or longer outdoors.
The latest model of the Tahoe has an impressive Z71 off-road trim available, as well as an all-new independent rear suspension with available magnetic ride control. This powerful SUV also has an available first-in-class four-corner air ride adaptive suspension that is the most advanced suspension in its class. With more than 120 cu.ft. of interior cargo space, you can take anything you need with you in the Tahoe, making it a fantastic option for camping.
The 2021 Chevy Suburban
If the Tahoe is not quite big enough for you, but you like everything it has to offer, then you should consider the all-new Chevy Suburban. This is a large SUV with a tremendous amount of interior space, plus all the same fantastic features available on the Tahoe. So if you like the idea of a large SUV with the Z71 off-road trim, magnetic ride control, and the four-corner air ride adaptive suspension, then you can get all of that on the Suburban.
Due to its larger size, the 2021 Suburban has more than 140 cu.ft. of interior cargo space. That’s a massive amount of room, so no matter what you need to take with you, you’ll be able to fit it all inside. And when properly configured, the Suburban can tow more than 8,000 lbs behind it, so it’s a fantastic option for taking a boat or ATVs with you.
