Sleek and Squat: The New Chevrolet Equinox

It has been five years since the Chevy Equinox got some love. The next generation, set to release for the 2017 model year, will feature a sleeker redesign, sit lower and lighter, and continue to challenge the crossover competition.

The 2017 Chevy Equinox: Evidence of an Overhaul

Though it has yet to arrive, spy shots of the upcoming Equinox reveal a front fascia that more closely resembles the one seen on the Traverse, which is Chevy’s larger crossover vehicle.

Rather than the signature Chevy dual-port grille, the new Equinox will sport a blacked out, wider grille, with openings that sweep back towards the headlamps.

The Equinox will likely be a tad smaller than the current model, because it will reportedly be built on General Motors’ global compact platform, which is new and provides the basis for the Buick Envision, a vehicle sold only in China.

For now, this is all we know about the new Equinox. Sales should start in at the beginning of 2017, and Chevy also intends to introduce a completely new crossover that will slide into the space between the Equinox and larger Traverse.

The 2015 Chevy Equinox: Efficient and Affordable

This is a fuel-efficient vehicle, ideal for families and road trips.

Standard equipment in the 2015 Chevy Equinox is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, able to produce 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque. The available engine option comes from the 3.6-liter V6, generating 301 horsepower and 272 lb.-ft. of torque. Performance testing in the V6 returned a result of 7.0 seconds for the zero to sixty mph dash, making the Equinox approximately half a second quicker than the rest of the crossover class.

Available in four trim levels: the L trim level is brand new for 2015 and joins the ranks of the LS, LT, and LTZ.

The Equinox has a wide range of options with fuel efficiency rated at 26 combined in the front wheel drive four-cylinder, 23 mpg combined from the all-wheel drive four-cylinder, while the front-wheel drive V6 gets 20 mpg combined and the V6 with all-wheel drive gets 19 mpg combined.

Along with the new L trim level, the OnStar system in the 2015 Equinox now has a 4G LTE connection with WiFi capabilities.
