While the Rivian is certainly an admirable vehicle with plenty of good things going for it, there are many ways in which the Silverado EV nudges the R1T out of the competition. From size to functionality to practicality, there is much to love about the 2025 Chevy Silverado. Comparing the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV and the 2025 Rivian R1T

The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV and the 2025 Rivian R1T are both five-passenger crew cab trucks. However, there are a few significant differences. The first thing to note is that the Silverado EV is larger than the R1T. From the outside, this difference isn’t too noticeable. The Silverado is 233.1 inches long, while the R1T is 217.1 inches from bumper to bumper.

However, this variance in dimensions becomes very apparent inside the cabin. The front seat of the Silverado has 64.9 inches of shoulder room, compared to the 60.6 inches offered in the R1T. While the rear seat measurements of the Silverado are similar to those of the front seat, with just over 44 inches of legroom, Rivian has just 36.6 inches of legroom in the rear.

Chevy offers the Silverado EV in three distinct configurations: LT Extended Range, RST Extended Range, and RST Max Range. In addition to power and performance differences, the LT and RST trims include differences in features and design to allow drivers to match their vehicle to their own personality.

The 2025 Rivian R1T is offered in Dual, Tri, and Quad configurations, which refer to the number of motors employed. The biggest differences between R1T models lie in engineering features such as power, speed, and range. Otherwise, drivers can express their preferences through paint color and additional purchased accessories, of which Rivian offers many.

Range and Performance

Everyone wants a powerful truck that can tow, stow, and move easily. There’s no denying that the Rivian is an incredibly fast vehicle, with 1,025 hp offered in the R1T Quad. That being said, quite a few “buts” come along with that reality. After all, with great speed comes great responsibility.

The Silverado EV’s range begins at 390 miles per full charge and only increases from there. The Rivian R1T range tops out at 420 miles. To lay it out plainly, the Silverado EV LT has a range of 408 miles, 645 hp, and 765 lb-ft of torque. Comparatively, the introductory R1T Dual Standard has a range of 270 miles and 533 hp.

Chevy offers the Silverado EV RST in Extended and Max battery configurations. The RST E has a range of 390 miles, while the Max can travel 460 miles on a full charge. The R1T Dual with the Max battery option offers the top 420-mile range. The large-battery Dual has a range of just 329 miles. The R1T Tri offers 850 horsepower but just 371 miles of range, while the blazing-fast R1T Quad improves that number by just a bit with a 374-mile range.

If going fast is your primary goal, the Rivian R1T Quad is practically unrivaled. But if you’re interested in going the distance and making your charge last, the Silverado EV has what it takes to get you where you’re going.

Utility and Hauling

When it comes to the utilitarian side of being a pickup truck, the 2025 Rivian R1T truly does all that it can. It offers a 9.9-cubic-foot front trunk and an 11.7-cubic-foot Gear Tunnel between the cabin and the rear wheels. The R1T pickup bed is a modest 54.1 inches long, but thanks to the revolutionary Rivian tailgate design, the overall bed length measures 83.6 inches.

The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV, however, is simply bigger. The front trunk, dubbed the “eTrunk” by Chevy, measures 10.7 cu.ft. and offers an optional power hood. The bed measures 71 inches with the tailgate shut. With the optional Midgate feature, a divider between the rear seats and the bed can be lowered, providing adequate space for cargo measuring up to 130 inches long. Chevy also offers the available Multi-Flex Tailgate, which provides six different configurations or uses for the tailgate, including a Load Stop function for extra-long cargo, Easy Access via a fold-down inner gate, and a full-width step or work surface.

Then there’s the matter of towing. While the Rivian R1T offers an admirable towing maximum of 11,000 pounds, a properly-equipped Chevy Silverado EV can tow up to 12,500 pounds. The R1T is well-equipped, with a 12-camera surround view system and 12 ultrasonic surround sensors to provide a full 360-degree protective view of the truck. However, the Silverado EV is simply better prepared for towing duty, with standard Hitch Guidance along with Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering, Trailer Camera Views, and an In-Vehicle Trailering App offered as standard equipment on the RST models. While the R1T can certainly be used for towing, Chevy takes its pickup truck duties more seriously, with over a century of practice to its name.

Technology, Comfort, and Convenience

When it comes to filling the cabin with the latest and greatest technological advances, neither the Chevy Silverado EV nor the Rivian R1T could be considered slackers. Each vehicle is clearly designed with the driver and passengers in mind. Both manufacturers have also inserted thoughtful standard features like wireless phone charging and a heated steering wheel. But what about the overall package?

Chevy offers plenty of incentives for drivers to slide behind the wheel of the Silverado EV, including features like power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats, along with heated rear outboard seats. The driver’s seat and steering column offer memory ability, which stores your specific settings and preferences. The Silverado’s infotainment system is operated via a massive 17.7-inch LCD screen and includes Google Built-In compatibility, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and a Bose Premium sound system. The cockpit is complemented with an 11-inch Driver Information Center, and RST models receive a 14-inch multicolor Head-Up Display.

The 2025 Rivian R1T has plenty of cool features, including heated and ventilated, power-adjustable front seats with memory settings. However, the infotainment screen measures just 15.6 inches. This screen is accompanied by a 6.8-inch digital rear screen, which is a cool idea for those who regularly have passengers in the rear seat of their pickup truck. Other novel features include a built-in flashlight and an optional camp speaker, which is standard in the special edition Quad Launch model.

Which One Is Right for You?

The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV and the 2025 Rivian R1T are both all-electric trucks with impeccable engineering and design. Offering pickup trucks at this caliber without a traditional gasoline-powered engine is an admirable feat of technology. Each of these vehicles could be an excellent choice for the right driver. However, this is also a situation where more is more. With the exception of horsepower, the 2025 Chevy Silverado simply has more to offer: a longer range, greater towing capability, and more helpful technology.
