With the 5.3L V8 EcoTec engine, the Silverado 1500 could handle 10,700 lbs hitched to it, so long as the driver opted for the Towing Package. The StabiliTrak system proved to be a popular addition thanks to the towing ability. With the capability of towing larger trailers came some concerns about stability; thus, the StabiliTrak was included to manage trailer sway and hill descent control. Of course, some drivers don’t need to tow; instead, they need a truck bed that can handle some serious weight. The 2013 mode could do just that, as drivers could fit in almost 2,000 lbs worth of cargo in the bed.

The third generation has a quieter engine than the second so that rides can be enjoyed without distraction. While already successful, Chevy made a push to show that the Silverado 1500 was a vehicle for families just as much as it was one for laborers. Success of the Third Generation

With each year, the Silverado 1500’s capability inched upwards, always outdoing the competition. By the end of this generation, the Silverado sold better than ever. That made talk of a new generation, the fourth, both exciting and anxiety-producing. Would it live up to the third generation’s standards?

New Generation, New Excitement

The fourth generation of the Silverado 1500 began with the 2019 model, although it received yet another makeover with the 2022 model. The fourth generation built on the success of the third instead of opting for a complete reinvention. What was popular in the past remained but was sharpened to be more effective (all while the truck came in at a lower weight than in the past).

For instance, an aggressive towing limit still reigned, with the fourth generation’s most recent model capable of towing up to 13,300 lbs (as a point of comparison, this is about three times the weight of the Silverado itself). The same could be said for the payload, too, as the 2019 model could handle up to 2,500 lbs, an increase of 500 lbs from the start of the third generation.

New trims became available, too, such as the ZR2 and the LT Trail Boss. The latter accentuated the Silverado 1500’s off-roading abilities as the truck continued to gain acclaim for how well it could handle adventure. The 2019 Silverado 1500’s LT Trail Boss trim gave a 2-inch suspension lift to the truck, further protecting it from rocky conditions it might traverse. With larger wheels, along with better shocks and plates, the LT Trail Boss proved unstoppable.

The fourth-generation Silverado 1500 also gained a new engine option: a 3.0L turbo diesel engine. With a diesel engine, drivers could get the most out of their truck’s towing ability while also saving money; in the long run, using diesel is more cost-effective than relying on a gas-powered engine. The Silverado’s interior continued to stay ahead of the times, with Chevy giving drivers access to cutting-edge technology that they could operate right from their touchscreen.
