Durability and capability are two of the most important things to look for when buying a truck, and the Silverado is made for both. This model originally debuted as a high-end trim level of Chevy's C/K trucks back in the 1990s. It was so successful that Chevy decided to have Silverado replace the C/K line in 1999. Since then, the Silverado has evolved in its visual appeal, tech features, and performance capabilities. This is what leads us to the long-awaited and brand-new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 offers excellent towing capacity, optimal safety features, and superb performance, all wrapped into one aesthetically appealing exterior. The Silverado 1500 is the most common truck size that offers enough power for most drivers.
What really makes this model stand out is its advancements when compared to previous Silverado models. Thanks to its new ZR2 off-road trim and the new Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, the updated 2022 Silverado easily stands out from its predecessors. You've got new technologies, off-road capabilities, and plenty of different trim levels to choose from. While all this information is exciting on its own, it is only partially why we're excited to tell you all about the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500.
When it comes to performance, trucks are a bit different than most other vehicle body styles. Often, there are several different configurations you can choose from to either emphasize the truck's strength or its fuel efficiency. This is true for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 as well.
When you like gasoline better than diesel, but you still want to save on fuel economy, the 2.7-liter turbo engine is the best bet. This engine now comes standard on the Silverado 1500 as of the 2022 model. You can get this engine with both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models. Although it's the smallest option, it's still incredibly powerful, pumping out 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft torque, with a max towing capacity of 9,500 pounds.
This model comes standard on five different Silverado trims:
Ready to step it up a notch with a V8 engine? The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with two different gasoline V8 engine options, and this is the smaller one. The 5.3-liter V8 pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. While it offers less torque than the 2.7-liter turbo V8, it makes up for it by having a higher horsepower rating. Due to this, the 5.3-liter V8 engine can tow up to 11,200 pounds. This is 1,700 pounds more than the 2.7-liter turbo. This engine is also available on both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive Silverado models.
This engine comes standard on the following trims:
However, you can upgrade to this engine when you get the Work Truck, LT, and RST trims.
Now we're getting into the big guns. The 6.2-liter V8 offers the highest towing capacity of all three gasoline engines. Furthermore, it ties with the turbo-diesel engine for the highest towing capacity overall. This engine helps the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 reach 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft torque. As a result, this model can tow 13,300 pounds! What makes it so unique is that it only comes standard on the off-roading ZR2 model. One important thing to note here is that this engine is not available on two-wheel drive models, whereas the previously mentioned two engines are.
That said, you can still get this engine as an option on the following trims:
Don't let that smaller first number fool you. The 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine makes up for horsepower through torque. While this engine produces only 277 ponies, it still pumps out a whopping 460 lb-ft of torque. If this sounds familiar, that's because it's the same torque rating as the V8 gasoline option but with less horsepower. That said, this model can tow 13,300 pounds just like the 6.2-liter V8 option can, but it can do it with fewer ponies thanks to its diesel power.
What's the perk of this engine versus the 6.2-liter gasoline V8 engine? You can tow the same amount but still opt-in for the two-wheel drivetrain. The difference is that this engine does not come as a standard on any option, but it's available on the following trims:
Another perk to the diesel engine for towers is that diesel trucks are known to last longer than gasoline trucks when towing is the main concern. For example, diesel trucks are known to last over 500,000 miles! So, if you're in the Silverado game for towing, the 3.0-liter diesel engine is an excellent option.
The Chevy Silverado is known for its strength and towing performance, but before now, it wasn't so much known for off-roading. Now, you can combine your love for Chevy with your passion for off-road adventures, thanks to the new Silverado ZR2 trim!
Thanks to the standard 6.2-liter V8 engine, a two-speed transfer case, and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires, off-roading in a Chevy has never been easier. And this doesn't even cover half of it. The ZR2 brings several new off-road-specific features to the Silverado, including an impressive 31.8-degree approach angle. In short, this means that drivers can climb up onto steeper inclines than ever before without worrying about scraping the bumper.
The new ZR2 also includes a two-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode. Basically, Terrain Mode is used for unpredictable road conditions, such as back roads with potholes and ruts. It includes a low-speed option that is specifically handy for off-roading, along with one-pedal driving. This feature is designed to make inclines and declines easier, particularly on trails.
While the ZR2's performance features are impressive, it also includes several aesthetic-specific assets as well. These include:
Whether you are hitting the trail in the new 2022 Silverado ZR2 or simply cruising the city streets, everyone will know the tremendous capability that your truck can offer. It is one thing to have a rugged off-road truck, and it is another to have a good-looking truck - to have both in a single factory package? That's simply unbeatable.
Safety always comes first, even when we're talking about performance-level vehicles. While towing capacity is, of course, a requirement for truck drivers, you want to get the best bang for your buck. There's no sense in paying for a truck if it doesn't include standard, modern tech. This is yet another reason why the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a steal! It now includes six standard driver-assist features. This means that no matter what trim level you choose, even if it's the lowest WT model, you've got six safety assist features to help keep you secure on the road. These driver-assist features include the following:
What's even more unique about the new Silverado compared to its previous models is that it comes with Super Cruise, a new hands-free driver-assist feature. This feature is available as a luxury option, so you must opt for the High Country trim to experience it. However, once you experience it, you won't believe how you got along without it.
When you have SuperCruise, you can drive on over 200,000 miles of compatible highways hands-free. This assist feature will only work when all conditions are perfect, keeping you safe. Furthermore, it's essential to pay close attention to the road while using this feature. If you don't, SuperCruise can detect the signs of your absent attention and return control of the vehicle to you.
Before, trucks were often lacking in the safety department. However, the new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 model brings safety without the hefty fees commonly associated with add-ons and expensive trims.
