Chevy Colorado & Chevy Silverado Both Make Best Resale Value for 2015 List

(L to R) The all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2015 Silverado

Now that summer is here and cleaning out the yard is beyond necessary, I realized a truck would greatly help this venture go more smoothly for me, plus it gives me an excuse to research which trucks for sale I like.  In my recent discoveries, I found this on Kelly Blue Book’s site, “The Top 10 Vehicles Boasting the Best Resale Value for 2015.”

According to Kelley Blue Book’s list, seven out of the ten listed vehicles were trucks.   The other other’s composed of two SUV’s and one jeep.

Two pickups from the Chevy truck lineup made it: the 2015 Silverado and the 2015 Colorado.

It’s odd, given the economic climate and the interest in fuel efficient cars that pickup trucks, which are not designed for fuel efficiency, would win best resale value.

Econ 101: Supply and Demand

There reasons trucks are retaining so much value right now is pretty simple and will take you back to your econ classes:  Supply and Demand.

  1. Supply is Low: Lack of trucks being produced.  With gas prices continuing to rise, there is more interest in cars with good fuel economy.  Even though Chevy produces pickups with excellent fuel economy, they are not producing them fast enough to meet the demand.
  2. Demand is high: Low supply of pickups.  People want them.  Pickups are bought as a long term investment.  People don’t just get rid of their pickups.  They hold on to them forever, even till its rotting in a decrepit old barn.

Customer loyalty to both style truck and brand also have influenced this list.

Chevy: Fastest Growing Pick Up Brand of Year

With two Chevrolet trucks making the list, it is easy to assume Chevy trucks are standing up to the competition and taking over.  In fact, Chevy is the fastest growing full size pickup brand of the year.  Both the Silverado as well as the Colorado have received numerous accolades.  As the newest member of the Chevy truck lineup, the Colorado already received Motor Trend’s 2015 Truck of the Year award.   offer many different choices on the website to create your own truck.  With selections in cabin, engine and bed size,. building your own unique Colorado or Silverado has never been easier.

Having been redesigned for the 2015 model year, the Silverado received a lot upgrades to packages, cabins and luxury accommodations.  The Silverado remains Chevy’s top choice for pickup drivers.

“Technology and Stuff”

As the smaller of the two, the Colorado is Chevy’s midsize pikup.  It most notably earned notoriety at the 2014 World Series when Chevy zone manager, Rikk Wilde, while presenting the 2015 Colorado to MVP Madison Bumgarner nervously described its “technology and stuff”.  Chevy immediately made good of this slight PR blunder by turning it into a hashtag and laughing about it all the way to the bank.

With news like this, truck owners now have the advantage.  Whether trading into a newer year or keeping in your driveway, there’s something satisfying in knowing you are driving the truck of choice.
