You’re not going to go that far back when looking at used Chevy pickups, but you still have plenty of options available to you when checking out used trucks for sale in Albany. Let’s take a look at the different used Chevy trucks you’ll find and highlight a few key model years to consider.

Chevy Colorado: Midsize Design and Great Performance

We’re going to take these one at a time, starting with the smallest option and going up from there. The Chevy Colorado started out as a compact truck more than 20 years ago, but the used models you’ll find from the last few years are midsize pickups. That makes them perfect if you want a truck to get you around Albany in style each day. As you might expect, the Colorado has lower towing and payload capacity than the other trucks we’ll look at today. If you don’t need full-size power, however, then this is the perfect way to go. Honestly, most folks don’t need the Silverado’s high-end capabilities, so the Colorado is quite popular.

You’ll find some great interior features and plenty of different trim levels when looking at used models. If you’re interested in heading off-road, which the Colorado is great for, then we suggest a Z71, Trail Boss, or ZR2 trim. What you can find depends on the model year you’re looking at, so keep that in mind as you explore different options.

As you look back over the past few model years, there are several you’ll want to keep in mind. The 2021 Colorado saw a mid-generation refresh, making it a terrific place to start. You can find some great features inside, as well as options for a five-foot or six-foot bed. The 2021 model year offers a choice of three engines:

• 2.5L I-4: 200 hp and 191 lb-ft torque
• 3.6L V6: 308 hp and 275 lb-ft torque
• 2.8L Diesel: 181 hp and 369 lb-ft torque

For something a bit more modern, we suggest going with a 2023 Colorado or later, which marked the third generation of this truck. Chevy offered three versions of a 2.7L turbocharged engine in that first year, but by 2025, they simplified the selection to a single 2.7L TurboMax making 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. That’s big performance, making these recent trucks a joy to drive. Although you’ll find different configurations of used models, a Colorado from the last few years offers 7,700 lbs of towing capacity and 1,684 lbs of maximum payload when properly equipped. That’s big performance for a midsize pickup.

Chevy Silverado 1500: Full-Size Power and Capabilities

If you’re looking for a truck with greater power and potential for getting some serious work done around Albany, the Silverado 1500 is the way to go. This is a full-size, light-duty pickup, making it an ideal choice for tackling a wide range of jobs. With its bold design and impressive engineering, this is still a fun option for your daily driver.

Chevy offers the Silverado 1500 in many different trim levels. This can make things a bit overwhelming if you’re not ready for it, so take your time when looking at what’s out there. The WT is the starting trim, with the Custom and LT building on it. For off-road capabilities, look for the Trail Boss models or the ZR2 trim. If you want some enhanced comfort and tech features, then the RST and LTZ models are the ones to look for. Finally, the High Country trim is the top model with the largest collection of great features. The right one for you depends on what you need from your pickup. Looking at the last five model years or so, the Silverado 1500 has been in its fourth generation, so you won’t find a huge disparity of options. We should note, however, that Chevy gave the Silverado 1500 a refresh for the 2022 model year. Prior to this, five engines were available:

• 4.3L V6: 285 hp and 305 lb-ft torque
• 2.7L turbo: 310 hp and 348 lb-ft torque
• 5.3L V8: 355 hp and 383 lb-ft torque
• 6.2L V8: 420 hp and 460 lb-ft torque
• 3.0L diesel: 277 hp and 460 lb-ft torque

Starting with the 2022 Silverado 1500, the V6 engine was dropped, and the upgraded 2.7L TurboMax offering 430 lb-ft of torque became the standard engine. What’s more, the 2023 model saw the diesel engine get enhanced performance, boosted up to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. With all of these models, the maximum towing capacity is 13,300 lbs with the 6.2L V8, and the Silverado 1500 tops out at just over 2,200 lbs of payload. Note that the improved diesel engine from 2023 on can also tow up to 13,300 lbs.

Chevy Silverado HD: Bigger Capabilities and More

Finally, we have the Silverado HD trucks, heavy-duty models built to get serious work done. You’ll typically find two main options here: the Silverado 2500 HD and the Silverado 3500 HD. Both are fantastic for a powerful truck that can get you around Albany and handle heavy loads.

The key difference is that the Silverado 2500 HD shares many features with the light-duty pickup, but offers more powerful options. With the Silverado 3500 HD, you can find models with a dual-rear-wheel (DRW) setup, which isn’t available on the Silverado 2500 HD. That results in a massive boost to fifth wheel towing and payload potential.

Both Silverado HD models kicked off their fourth generation starting with the 2020 model year. They received a mid-generation update for the 2024 model, with some interior updates and a general facelift. In terms of performance, both HD models come with either a 6.6L V8 making 401 hp and 464 lb-ft torque, or a 6.6L diesel making 445 hp and 910 lb-ft torque. The 2024 update boosted the diesel to 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque. This also increased the diesel’s towing capacity from 18,510 lbs to 22,430 lbs.

The Silverado 3500 HD offers the same engines, also with upgraded diesel performance for the 2024 model year. The difference is that the 3500 HD offers more than 35,000 lbs of maximum towing when properly configured with a DRW setup, regardless of model year in this generation. The Silverado 3500 HD can handle more than 7,000 lbs of payload with a DRW configuration, while the Silverado 2500 HD tops out under 4,000 lbs.
